Job Summary:

The Mental Health Counselor will provide and coordinate mental health services for students enrolled at Lamar Community College. The Mental Health Counselor will work collaboratively with other offices on campus to develop systems and programs that are particularly, but not exclusively, supportive of students who are first generation, low income, and/or students of color. This person will provide a wide range of counseling services, including individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, outreach, consultation, and training that emphasize students' resilience and other skills and capacities that have brought them to Lamar Community College. The Mental Health Counselor will model excellent boundary establishment and maintenance, strict adherence to confidentiality, and a commitment to operation an ethically driven mental health practice. They will be clinically supervised by the Mental Health Development Supervisor and as such will participate in the larger Rural College Consortium Mental Health Development Project Team, regularly interfacing with other Mental Health Counselors at sister institutions.

As an employee of, and the Colorado Community College System, this position is required to uphold and enforce the policies of LCC and CCCS, and all local, state and federal laws. This position will comply with all student privacy laws (FERPA); and is a mandatory reporter of any suspected illegal activity.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Provide clinical services including culturally responsive and identity-informed planning, solution focused brief therapy, group counseling, crisis intervention services, psychoeducation, and referrals.
• Serve as a thought leader, devising new and creative ways of promoting holistic mental health and wellness for students, especially as it relates to promoting their success academically, personally, and professionally.
• Develop student programs and outreach activities related to sexual assault prevention, drug and alcohol prevention, healthy relationships, and health and wellness.
• Provide outreach, consultation, and professional development opportunities for faculty and staff related to student mental health concerns, intersectionality, and challenges faced by students.
• Engage in regular outreach activities and create/distribute promotional materials in order to educate students, faculty, and staff on services offered.
• Work collaboratively with other offices and departments on campus to develop and provide a network of support services for students.
• Serve as a member of the Lopes Cares/ BIT Team and leads crisis prevention and intervention efforts; spearhead outreach and promotion efforts to inform staff, faculty, and students of referral pathways specific to Lamar Community College
• Adhere to relevant ethical and legal standards of as demanded by the Colorado Department of Regulatory Agencies (DORA) and
• HIPAA, including relevant professional bodies and state boards.
• Model exceptional boundary establishment and maintenance, and practice strict adherence to confidentiality protocols.
• Maintain timely records of services provided and comply with appropriate record keeping protocols.
• Attend conferences, committees, task forces, and other meetings related to student mental health and wellness.
• Comprehensively respond to crises, execute thorough and accurate risk assessments, and/or facilitate community agency involvement toward hospitalization or higher-acuity care demands.
• Demonstrate self-awareness of one's own cultural beliefs, perspectives, biases, and privileges, along with a willingness to receive further education and training around identified blind spots or deficiencies.
• Participate in regular professional development opportunities both within the counseling field and within the higher education milieu.
• Provide leadership and guidance to up to two (2) Psychoeducation Interns (PI), including co-creation/co-facilitation of mental health programming for delivery in approved classroom and public campus settings; monitor PI performance, providing regular feedback and professional development training; build and strengthen the PI-to-MHC referral conduit, ensuring PIs are not attempting to practice individual or group counseling; carry out remedial or corrective action plans with PIs, as needed.

Minimum Qualifications:

Master's Degree from a nationally accredited institution of higher education in a counseling-related field.

Licensed in the State of Colorado as one of the following:

Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)

Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC)

Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)

Licensed Clinical or Counseling Psychologist

Acquisition and annual renewal of professional liability insurance ($1,000,000/per claim; $5,000,000 aggregate).

Proven training and experience providing culturally responsive and identity-informed counseling services to diverse populations.

Experience providing short-term counseling to individuals and groups.

Experience with crisis intervention and clinical consultation.

Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.

Dedication to working as a team.

Preferred Qualifications:

At least 2-years of professional experience providing mental health counseling.

Experience with solution-focused and brief models of mental health counseling.

Experience working with neurodiverse populations (e.g. ADHD, autism spectrum, learning disabilities).

Experience with outreach and programming.

Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with diverse student populations with special emphasis on first-generation, low-income, and students of color.

Bilingual.
