Description

The Mental Health Counselor is a part-time, grant-funded position within theStudent Wellness Center responsible for providing short-term, solution-focused,and trauma-informed mental health services to a diverse student population.This position supports student well-being, retention, and academic successthrough individual counseling, crisis intervention, case management,consultation, outreach, and referrals to campus and community resources.

The Student Wellness Center is committed to fostering resilience, reducingbarriers to student success, and promoting the mental health and well-being ofall students through accessible, compassionate, and student-centered services.The Mental Health Counselor plays an integral role in advancing this mission bycollaborating with faculty, staff , and community partners to create a safe,supportive, and inclusive campus environment.

Responsibilities include maintaining timely and accurate clinical documentationin accordance with professional, ethical, College, and HIPAA standards whileparticipating in data collection and reporting to support grant objectives andcontinuous program improvement.

Flexible scheduling is available based on student needs and Student WellnessCenter operations.

Description of Essential Functions (critical tasks)

  1. Provide individual counseling utilizing brief, solution-focused, evidence-based, and trauma-informed interventions.

  2. Conduct comprehensive clinical assessments, risk assessments, and crisis intervention services.

  3. Coordinate emergency psychiatric evaluations and referrals when clinically indicated.

  4. Meet with walk-in students to assess immediate needs and provide crisis counseling and intervention.

  5. Provide case management and referrals to campus and community resources that support student well-being and academic success.

  6. Facilitate individual counseling, group counseling, psycho-educational workshops, and outreach programming that promote mental health and wellness.

  7. Consult with faculty, staff, and interdisciplinary teams regarding student behavioral health concerns, classroom interventions, and Behavioral Health Intervention Team (BIT) process.

  8. Maintain timely, accurate, and confidential clinical documentation in accordance with HIPAA, professional standards, College policy, ad grant requirements.

  9. Collect, maintain, and report program utilization data to support grant reporting, program assessment, and continuous quality improvement.

  10. Foster a welcoming, inclusive, and supportive environment for all students accessing Student Wellness Center services.

  11. Perform other duties as assigned in support of the Student Wellness Center and grant initiatives.

Specific Functional Job Requirements

Doctoral degree (Ph.D. or Psy.D.) in Psychology from an accredited college or university; OR

Master's degree in social work (M.S.W.); OR

Masters degree (M.A., M.S., or M.Ed.) in Counseling, Clinical Mental Health Counseling, Counseling Psychology, or a closely related behavioral health field.

Supplemental Information

Current Illinois licensure as one of the following:

Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC)

Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor (LCPC)

Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW)

Licensed Clinical Psychologist

Must be able to travel throughout the College district as needed.

Occasional evening hours may be required based on student needs and programming.

This is a part-time, grant-funded position. Continued employment is contingentupon the availability of grant funding.

This position is not eligible for benefits.
