This position is under the direction of the Director of Mental Health and/or Health Services Administrator. Provides assessment, diagnostics, treatment planning, individual and/or group therapy to patients at the Escambia County Jail as part of an established mental health care program. This position is assigned to both inpatient and outpatient clinics within the jail. This position also takes call on a rotating basis (if licensed).

This is a "mandatory-testing" position that requires Drug Testing.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES

Follows all standards and patient care protocols, all federal, state, correctional health care standards, and the Escambia County Board of County Commissioner's policies, regulations, and guidelines

Collects data about patients through interview, case history, psychological tests, and/or observational techniques; evaluates data to identify causes of problems and determines proper therapeutic approaches or referral to other specialists

Provides counseling, therapy, and/or psychotherapy to patients as appropriate to the position

Prepares treatment and follow-up programs

Provides therapeutic crisis intervention and emergency services as required

Responsible for complete and accurate documentation of care provided in the inmate's health record

Maintains health services records logs and assists with data entry within the scope of mental health related items

Consults with other practitioners and related staff, as appropriate in the performance of therapeutic duties and/or casework

Follows up to determine reliability of treatment used and changes methods and degree of therapy when indicated

Participates in the review of clinical issues and program policies and procedures

Facilitates and participates in inmate educational health programs

Participates in continuing education and in-service training to maintain professional capabilities and proficiency

Answer calls during on-call rotation and may be required to work nights/weekends

Performs other related duties as assigned

TPICAL QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Qualification Requirements:

Training and Experience:

Master's degree in Counseling, Psychology, or Social Work, or, a combination of education and experience equivalent to these requirements.

Must have at least Registered Intern status in Mental Health Counseling, Social Work, or Marriage and Family therapy and must obtain license status within three years of hire

Preferred Qualifications:

Licensed Mental Health Counselor (LMHC), Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT)

Preference will be given to those Registered Interns who have already taken/passed the FL license exam

Correctional experience

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Other Characteristics (KSAOs):

psychological test administration, scoring, and interpretation

DSM 5

a range of counseling and therapeutic techniques

clinical operations and procedures

interviewing and identifying psychological and developmental problems

writing accurately assess patient presentation in order to develop diagnosis and individualized treatment plan

apply behavioral health counseling and techniques

evaluate the progress of therapeutic programs and to make individual modifications

observe, assess, and record symptoms, reactions, and progress

work effectively with a diverse community

Emergency Management Responsibilities:

During emergency conditions, the incumbent of this position will automatically be considered an emergency service worker. This employee is subject to being called to work in the event of a disaster, such as a hurricane, or other emergency situation and is expected to perform emergency service duties, as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Light Work: Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force frequently, and/or negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. If the use of arm and/or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than that for Sedentary Work and the worker sits most of the time, the job is rated for Light Work.
