Position: Medico-Legal Tech

Department: Health Info MGMT Services

Shift: Days

Status: Full-Time(40 hours)

Facility: Miami Valley Hospital

The Health Information Analyst (Medical-Legal Tech) is primarily responsible for performing the medical-legal functions efficiently and accurately. The analyst is responsible for (but is not limited to) processing requests for medical information from physician offices, healthcare facilities, attorneys, insurance companies, patients and/or their representatives.

The Medical-Legal Tech assures that guidelines of HIPAA are followed to reduce the hospital's potential liability in releasing records or protected health information.. He or she must have the ability to deal effectively with the public, medical staff, and other hospital personnel at all times.

Education

Minimum Level of Education Required: High School completion / GED

Additional requirements:

Type of degree: Associate Degree preferred

Area of study or major: HIM or other healthcare profession

Preferred educational qualifications: RHIT certification preferred

Licensure/Certification/Registration

Medical Terminology

Experience

Minimum Level of Experience Required: 1 - 3 years of job-related experience

Prior job title or occupational experience: Medical-Legal experience in a Health Information Management department or related experience, i.e. healthcare billing, physician office. Associate degree, HIM, in lieu of medical-legal experience.

Other experience requirements: Medical Terminology or completion of medical terminology course within 3 months of hire.

Knowledge/Skills

  • Must display excellent telephone techniques.
  • Must be able to communicate well, both verbally and written.
  • Must have data entry skills and be familiar with the use of a keyboard.
  • Notary of the Public preferred. If not currently, employee must obtain commission within 4 months of hire.
