Purpose of Position: Perform and document testing with the highest quality and results.

Description

:

• Consistently provides service excellence to all patients, family members, visitors, volunteers and co-workers.

• Must be courteous to patients, visitors, physicians, volunteers, and other employees of the organization.

• Performs clinical testing in conformance with the laboratory procedure and physician order; initiate follow up as necessary to confirm an order; draw venous or capillary blood from patients as required; receive other body fluids or specimens from inpatients and outpatients; package specimens together with pertinent information arrange for delivery to reference laboratory; and prioritize requests according to need and conditions.

• Prepares reagents, standards, and controls when needed.

• Prepare and set-up equipment for various tests, assure proper calibration of equipment.

• Performs instrument troubleshooting as necessary and preventive maintenance as scheduled.

• Perform and record daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance checks on all laboratory equipment.

• Accurately transcribes completed test data for reporting.

• Communicates with Providers and their Teams alerting them to critical values in a timely manner.

• Makes recommendations for improvements in quality and/or efficiency to the immediate supervisor.

• Participates in Proficiency Testing program to maintain CLIA compliance.

• Participation in Quality Assurance projects

• Summarize findings

• Assists the supervisor in the maintenance of assigned procedure manuals in compliance with CLIA and Massachusetts Department of Health standards.

• Practice efficient and economical use of laboratory supplies; checks the inventory, orders supplies and restocks upon arrival.

• Maintains confidentiality of information deemed confidential.

• Assist in work performed by MLT; orientation of all new personnel; training of students, and instruction to nontechnical personnel.

• Maintains work benches, testing areas and other work areas in a clean, sanitary and free of clutter condition for the safety of patients, guests and staff.

• Ensure adequate availability of required supplies and reagents and communicate to appropriate supervisory personnel when necessary.

• Has the ability to learn and perform new procedures established in the clinical laboratory.

• Retain a thorough knowledge of departmental policies and procedures as they pertain to the job, including the fire and disaster plans.

• Performs other work related duties and activities as assigned or requested.

Qualifications

:

Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) - Grade: P015, Job Code: 10272

• Must read, write, and communicate in English

• Ability to communicate in English to understand and respond to basic verbal and written English language instruction.

• Must meet at least one of the following qualifications:

• An Associates' Degree in science and/or completion of an approved Medical Laboratory Technology internship program and/or registration as a Medical Laboratory Technician with the ASCP or NCA, preferred.

• High school diploma or equivalent and two years' experience within clinical laboratory, preferably at Medical Affiliates of Cape Cod following training on all instruments and the Laboratory Information System.

• Computer skills preferred

• Must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work successfully in a team effort

• Must possess good oral and written communication skills

• Must be well organized, dependable, self-motivating, and demonstrate initiative

• Recent Core Lab experience preferred

Medical Technologist (MT/MLS) - Grade: P017, Job Code: 10492

• Must read, write, and communicate in English
• Ability to communicate in English to understand and respond to basic verbal and written English language instruction.
• Bachelor's degree or higher in Medical/Clinical Laboratory science, Medical Technology, Biology, Microbiology, or Chemistry from an accredited institution and completion of an approved Medical Technology internship program.
• ASCP or equivalent certification preferred within six (6) months of hire. HEW certification acceptable.
• Computer skills preferred
• Must have strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work successfully in a team effort
• Must possess good oral and written communication skills
• Must be well organized, dependable, self-motivating, and demonstrate initiative
• Recent Core Lab experience preferred

Schedule Details: 32/24 Flex Hours Per Week, Monday-Friday, 8:30a-4:30p, No Weekends, No Holidays
