Title:  Med Surg / Telemetry

Location: Concord North Carolina 28025

Duration: 13 Weeks

Shift: 12hr Night Shift - 36

Shift Information: 1900 - 0700

Clinical Interviewing- Yes

On Call, Call Back Requirements: No call

Weekend Rotation: Every other weekend

Holiday Requirements: Travelers will work 75% of holidays

Floating Requirements: Region 1 - Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, Central Division (CMC Main + Mercy + LCH (peds only) -- could float to any of the facilities within region if the need arises

  • Radius rule: Traveler s permanent address must be 50 miles outside of home unit
Unit Information:
  • Beds: 44
    • Census 44
Minimum Years of Experience required: 18 months of Med/Tele RN experience
  • Will you accept a first-time traveler: Yes
Patient Types/Common Diagnoses:
  • Medical 18 years old and above - Respiratory illnesses, GI illnesses, Sepsis, CHF, Diabetes, placement issues, Behavioral health, etc.
Patient Ratios:
  • RN: 1:4-6, acuity dependent – surge times could increase to 1:7-8
  • LPN: 1:4-6, acuity dependent – surge times could increase to 1:7-8
  • CNA: 1:11-16
Required License, National Certification, Certs (BLS, ACLS, etc.), or other position specific requirements such as Driver's License and/or Insurance:
  • BLS, ACLS, NIHSS
Skills required:
  • Trach care, chest tube management, PIV starts, wound care, plurex catheter management, positive bedside manner and strong communication skills
Support within the Department:
  • CNA trained to do additional skills: foley catheter insertion and removal, PIV removal, oxygen set-up, bolus tube feeds, EKG, bladder scan, finger stick blood sugar, and peripheral blood draws
  • Unit Secretary on dayshift only
  • Charge nurse out of assignment when staffing allows
  • Phlebotomy - CNA completes peripheral sticks, RN does central lines
  • IV/VAT Team for difficult sticks and manages central line dressing changes
  • RT assigned to unit, 24/7 – RT provides all respiratory treatments
  • Hospitalist, 24/7, with cross coverage at night
  • Intensivist, 24/7, as needed for consults on the unit
  • Telemetry monitoring/tech? Yes, monitored remotely
Technology/Equipment:
  • EMR: EPIC
  • IV Pump: Alaris
  • Med dispensing: Omnicell
  • Monitors: Patient Safety Net (PSN)
  • Unit specific equipment: PSN, Hoyer lift, EKG, bladder scanner, vein finder
Floating:
  • Travel nurses will be first to float to other nursing units and provide flexible staffing support based on patient care needs and staffing demands. They will demonstrate adaptability and clinical flexibility when floating to other units. Will take patients within scope of practice on any unit (e.g. MedSurg assignment in ICU, MedSurg holds in ED, etc.)
  • Will be required to float per region needs – will require floating to all facilities listed below, as needed, within scope of practice – DECLINE if not agreeable
    • Region 1 - Cabarrus, University City, Stanly, Lake Norman, Central Division (CMC Main Mercy LCH (peds only) -- could float to any of the facilities within region if the need arises
    • If floating mid-shift, Traveler will be paid for the time traveling between facilities (will remain on the clock)
Orientation (facility and unit):
  • NEO
  • Facility flash orientation with education team
  • 2 days departmental orientation with preceptor
Scheduling:
  • Weekend rotation: every other
  • No call
  • Holiday Expectations: Travelers will work 75% of holidays
  • RTO: Can approve up to 6 days off, excluding holidays – must add time to the end of the contract if unable to meet contracted hours
  • Shift times: 0645-1900 or 1845-0700
  • Schedule cycle: every 6 weeks
