Fairview is looking to hire a full-time Medical Surgery Coder to join our experienced coding team. This is a benefit-eligible position working 80 hours per pay period, with a work structure that provides flexibility while supporting strong collaboration across the team.
This is a highly complex surgical coding role requiring strong knowledge of surgical coding, modifiers, bundling guidelines, and unlisted codes. Our teams support complex surgical cases, including procedures that may be uncommon or newly developed and do not always have clearly established codes. Coders must be comfortable researching challenging cases, applying coding guidelines, and determining the most accurate and compliant approach.
The ideal candidate will have 4+ years of surgical coding experience and be able to hit the ground running with minimal supervision. Experience with general surgery, trauma, or other surgical specialties is strongly preferred, along with Epic experience. Candidates should be confident working independently while also knowing when to collaborate with teammates and utilize available resources.
Our surgical coding team is highly experienced and cross-trained, creating a collaborative environment where coders have knowledgeable colleagues available for support and backup. General Surgery includes multiple work queues supporting both adult and pediatric cases, providing opportunities to expand your expertise and learn additional specialties. This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced coder who enjoys tackling unusual and highly complex surgical cases while continuing to grow their coding knowledge.
Responsible for the accurate and timely coding of intermediate to complex diagnostic, E& M, procedural and surgery services in accordance with current billing, coding regulations and policies. Ensures accurate diagnoses, procedure codes and other specified data to ensure appropriate/optimal reimbursement for facility and/or professional charges utilizing information from medical records and following established methods and procedures. Communicates with Providers and Clinical Personnel regarding proper coding and education.
