Ability to work with patient insurance companies including reviewing patient insurance information, comparing patient medication lists with patient insurance coverage, checking medications on Mainecare PDL for formulary vs non-formulary drugs, and submitting PA forms for physicians and providing PA copies to providers as needed.

Job duties:

The functions of a pharmacy medical support specialist involve performing a variety of pharmacy tasks, all of which are under the supervision of a registered pharmacist.

Principle Duties/Responsibilities;

Attends continuing education programs to enhance job knowledge

Utilize the Pyxis machine which includes but is not limited to loading and unloading medications, adding or deleting medications on the Pyxis console, sorting daily Pyxis batch reports, filling batch reports to par level, filing reports, trouble shooting and handling contact with Pyxis customer support as needed.

Ability to work with patient insurance companies including reviewing patient insurance information, comparing patient medication lists with patient insurance coverage, checking medications on Mainecare PDL for formulary vs non-formulary drugs, and submitting PA forms for physicians and providing PA copies to providers as needed.

Monitoring and maintaining perpetual inventory levels of all controlled substances.

Accurately prepare and fill prescriptions for clients and unit stock requests.

Ordering, checking and restocking pharmaceuticals.

Perform monthly audits throughout the hospital.

Check medications throughout the hospital for outdates, returns and recalls.

Maintain daily communications, monitor discrepancies and troubleshoot with current outsourcing pharmacy.

Prepare bulk medications into unit dose packaging as needed.

Capable of independent decision making on the appropriate processes to follow, information to process, and actions to take in accordance with policy and procedure.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Graduate of high school or equivalent. Strong communication skills. Ability to work with a team as well as independently. Two (2) years experience or education in a medical related field.

Maintain a current license as a pharmacy technician by the State of Maine.
