Duties

Help

  • Inspect reusable medical supplies and/or instruments for damage.
  • Monitor operation of sterilizer with prescribed tests.
  • Prepare contaminated surgical items for sterilization procedures.
  • Determine type of medical tray/set needed based on clinic schedule.
  • Manage records of medical supply inventory to determine reordering need.
  • Conduct equipment testing of surgical instruments to ensure operational efficiency.

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • A Personnel Security Investigation is required.
  • Selectees will be required to sign a statement (Condition of Employment) consenting to seasonal influenza vaccinations or must provide a recognized exemption.
  • This position has a business travel requirement of 5% of the time to various locations.
  • A pre-employment physical is required. To meet Physical Effort requirements, this position may require an annual physical or medical surveillance examination.
  • Required to wear Personnel Protective Equipment.
  • Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact. Applicants may be required to show proof of other immunizations depending on the type of position.
  • This position may require the incumbent to work during irregular work hours which may include evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or varying work schedules.
  • This position may require rotating shifts (i.e. work schedule that requires employees to continuously rotate from one shift to another at predetermined intervals).
  • Moderate to heavy lifting up to 45 pounds is required.
  • This position is designated as Mission Essential. The incumbent will be required to report to work during times of contingency operations, natural disasters, extreme weather or other emergency situations.
  • This position is designated as Inclement Weather Essential. The incumbent must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the federal government which includes demonstrated experience assembling medical instrument trays; wrapping and labeling instrument sets in preparation for the sterilization process; checking supplies to ensure required compliance; AND decontaminating the full range of reusable medical supplies and equipment used within the assigned area. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05).

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

  • One year trial/probationary period may be required.
