BayCare is seeking an experienced Specialty Coder III to perform advanced outpatient coding for short-stay encounters. In this role, you will review medical records and accurately assign diagnosis and procedure codes using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding systems. You will serve as a coding subject matter expert, collaborating with clinical and operational teams to resolve documentation questions, improve coding accuracy, and support revenue cycle integrity.
This position also plays an important mentoring role by assisting with the training and development of Coder I and Coder II team members, as well as clinical practice students. The ideal candidate has extensive outpatient coding experience, strong analytical skills, and a thorough understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and coding guidelines.

Key Responsibilities
- Review and code short-stay outpatient encounters using ICD-10-CM and CPT-4 coding systems.
- Ensure accurate code assignment and compliance with coding regulations and organizational standards.
- Collaborate with physicians, clinical staff, and departments to resolve documentation gaps and coding-related questions.
- Monitor and manage bill hold reports to support timely claim submission.
- Maintain the integrity and accuracy of the electronic health record.
- Assist with training, mentoring, and onboarding of coding staff and students.
- Serve as a resource for coding guidance and best practices.
Minimum Qualifications
Required:
- High School Diploma or GED
- Certified Coding Specialist (CCS)
- Five (5) years of outpatient coding experience
Preferred:
- Associate degree in Health Information Management or a related field
- Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) credential
