General Summary of Duties: The Medical Receptionist, under the supervision of the Medical Receptionist Supervisor, is responsible for scheduling appointments, greeting patients, data entry, collecting payments, renewing prescriptions, and acting as a liaison between the patient, provider, clinical staff and billing department.            
 
Job Qualifications:   
     Education/Training: Minimal: High School graduate or GED 
     Experience: Experience preferred but not necessary.

Skills/Abilities:
  • Must possess and exhibit a positive attitude
  • Knowledge of office equipment including a multi-line phone system
  • Knowledge of computers and proficiency in the operation of a keyboard
  • Ability to type 30 wpm
  • Ability to take payments and make change and balance the change bag
  • Ability to alphabetize paper work
  • Ability to convey phone messages accurately to coworkers and providers
  • Ability to triage messages 
  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively orally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients, medical staff, coworkers and the public
  • Ability to use good reasoning and judgment and react calmly in emergency situations
  • Ability to interpret, adapt and apply guidelines and procedures
  • Skill in identifying and resolving problems 
Physical Requirements:
  • Work with a positive attitude
  • Have full range of body motion; pull and reach, bend, sit, stand, stoop and stretch
  • Have the hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity needed to operate a keyboard, photocopier, and telephone
  • Have the normal range of hearing and eyesight
  • Ability to work a rotating schedule including morning, mid-day, evening and Saturday hours
  • Ability to operate a vacuum cleaner
  • Ability to clean restrooms
  • Reliable transportation

            Pay Rate: This is an hourly position with a minimum pay rate of $17 per hour.

The work of this position is performed in an environmentally controlled office environment.  The position requires the ability to work under pressure and with a diverse population, including staff, physicians, clients, patients, insurance companies, and other members of the public on a regular basis.  The position is classified as a non-occupational risk.  The employee is not exposed to blood-borne pathogens.
