Description

Pay Rate: $18 to $22 Per Hour
Shift hours: 8:30-4:30pm

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in patient care responsibilities, including performing venipuncture and/or EKGs, checking schedules, and organizing patient flow.
  • Accompany patients to exam/procedure rooms, assist with walking, transferring, and dressing, and collect and process specimens and point of care testing.
  • Assist physicians with procedures, take vital signs, relay instructions to patients and families, and answer calls to provide pertinent information.
  • Fulfill clerical responsibilities, such as sending and receiving patient medical records, obtaining lab/x-ray reports, and completing forms and requisitions.
  • Enter orders into the electronic medical record (EMR) system or prepare prescription refill requests for physician review and approval.
  • Inventory, order, or restock medical supplies as needed.
  • Set up examination rooms and instruments in accordance with sterilization techniques and infection control policies.
  • Maintain logging systems for refrigeration of medications, point of care testing, sterilization processes, and other necessary logs.
  • Check expiration dates on medications and medical supplies, disposing of them appropriately as per institution policy.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures and complying with legal regulations.
  • Comply with personal protective equipment requirements for protection against exposure to blood, chemical disinfectants, radiation, and other hazardous substances.
  • Assist in the maintenance of medical charts, including filing, test results, and home care forms.
  • May schedule surgeries/procedures or work with Surgical Coordinator to verify times with patients and prepare charts, pre-admissions, and consent forms.
  • May perform proficient phlebotomy duties.
  • May handle appointment scheduling, patient registration, and updating patient demographic and insurance information.
  • May maintain, adjust, and confirm patient office schedules.
  • May verify and update insurance information using internal or web sources.
  • May perform and verify pre-certification for procedures as necessary.
  • Schedule and greet patients, take vitals, obtain medical history, and assist in administering certain testing.
  • Communicate physician instructions for testing, procedures, and medications, and obtain pre-authorization for testing and medications.
  • Work with staff on chemo treatments, testing, scans, MRI, and X-ray.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • High School Diploma/GED.
  • Certification as a Medical Assistant from an approved school.
  • AHA HeartSaver or BLS Certification.

Preferred Skills:

  • Minimum 3 years of experience working as a medical assistant.
  • Relevant medical office/phlebotomy experience is desirable.
  • Basic proficiency in MS Office Suite.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with multicultural patients.
