Medical Lead Opportunity - Companion Animal Care Center | Winona, MN

  • Interest In: Small-animal general practice in a progressive, full-service hospital offering a broad spectrum of medical, surgical, diagnostic, and urgent care services. Clinical interests may include wellness and preventative medicine, internal medicine, dentistry, soft-tissue surgery, orthopedic procedures, advanced diagnostics, urgent care, pain management, and client education. The hospital is equipped to provide comprehensive care from routine wellness to more advanced medical and surgical cases, supported by access to specialty consultation when needed.
  • Medical Lead / Experienced Veterinarian: We are seeking an experienced veterinarian to step into a Medical Lead role within our established, multi-doctor practice. This is a predominantly clinical leadership opportunity ideal for a veterinarian who enjoys practicing high-quality medicine while helping shape clinical standards, guide medical protocols, and support a collaborative veterinary team. The ideal candidate is passionate about delivering exceptional patient care and excited to influence the future growth and continued excellence of the hospital.
  • Supportive, Experienced Technical Staff: Practice alongside a highly skilled and compassionate support team, including experienced Certified Veterinary Technicians, who are dedicated to delivering exceptional patient care and allowing doctors to practice efficiently. Our collaborative culture emphasizes teamwork, communication, and utilizing support staff to the fullest extent of their training.
  • Layout & Facility Highlights: Modern, full-service facility featuring state-of-the-art diagnostics, in-house laboratory capabilities, digital imaging, advanced treatment areas, surgical and dental suites, ICU capabilities, climate-controlled recovery areas, and equipment designed to support both routine and advanced patient care. The hospital offers wellness, diagnostics, advanced medical care, surgery, urgent care, and boarding services, providing doctors with a diverse and engaging caseload.
  • Collaborative Leadership Environment: The Medical Lead will partner closely with hospital leadership and the veterinary team to guide medical quality, support consistency in patient care, evaluate and refine clinical protocols, and help foster a positive, growth-oriented culture. This is a doctor-first leadership role focused primarily on leading medicine rather than heavy administrative responsibilities.
  • Patient Mix: A diverse small-animal caseload consisting primarily of dogs and cats, including preventative care, chronic disease management, dentistry, surgery, urgent care presentations, and advanced medical cases. Doctors have the opportunity to practice comprehensive medicine while pursuing individual clinical interests and advanced procedures.

Medical Lead Role Snapshot

Clinical Responsibilities (80-90%)

  • Deliver high-quality, compassionate veterinary care across wellness, surgery, dentistry, diagnostics, and urgent care services
  • Independently manage routine, complex, and chronic cases with strong clinical judgment
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with clients regarding diagnostics, treatment plans, and outcomes
  • Lead by example on the floor, modeling excellent medicine, efficiency, and patient care standards

Medical Lead / Leader of Medicine Responsibilities (10-20%)

  • Serve as the primary clinical leader and medical authority within the hospital
  • Guide medical standards, protocols, and consistency in case management
  • Support doctor alignment and provide clinical guidance on complex cases
  • Partner with local leadership (Regional Medical Director) regarding medical equipment, diagnostics, and workflow improvements
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, accountability, and continuous improvement across the veterinary team
