Job Title: Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT)
Specialty: Clinical Laboratory Sciences - Medical Laboratory Technology (Clinical Chemistry, Hematology, Coagulation, Urinalysis, Serology, Microbiology, and Blood Bank/Immunohematology when applicable)
Place of Work (City/State): Phoenix Area, Arizona
Site: Phoenix Area Indian Health Service (PAIHS) facilities
Duration: Long term contract
Shift Schedule:
- Day Shift
- Evening Shift
- Night Shift
- 8-hour shifts (typical)
- 10-hour shifts (when operationally required)
- Coverage may be required 24 hours/day, 7 days/week, including weekends and Federal holidays
Credentialing / Onboarding Time: 6 8 weeks
Certifications:
- ASCP or AMT, or another nationally recognized certifying body acceptable to the Government
- Current BLS
Education: Associate's Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology, or equivalent qualifying education consistent with applicable certification requirements
Experience Needed: Minimum 1 year of recent clinical laboratory experience.
Special Skills Needed:
- Specimen collection, processing, and handling
- Clinical chemistry, hematology, coagulation, blood bank/transfusion services, microbiology, serology, urinalysis
- Quality control/quality assurance procedures
- Laboratory Information Systems (LIS) and EHR proficiency
- Instrumentation operation per manufacturer/laboratory procedures
Responsibilities:
- Collect, receive, process, analyze, and report laboratory specimens per approved methodologies
- Perform QC/QA and proficiency testing; recognize and correct unacceptable QC results
- Comply with laboratory safety, infection prevention, PPE, and biohazard handling requirements
- Accurately document testing and QC activities in LIS/EHR
- Perform routine equipment maintenance, calibration, and operational checks; report malfunctions
- Maintain HIPAA/Privacy Act compliance and patient confidentiality
- Notify COR of any change affecting certification/eligibility status
- May not perform testing outside scope of certification/competency, represent themselves as Government employees, or perform inherently governmental functions
