Description

Title: Medical Laboratory Scientist I
Location: Clifton, NJ 07012

Duration: 6 Months / Temp To Hire
Shift: Sunday to Thursday 7:00 am – 3:30 pm

Payrate: $40.00 per hour on w2 contract 

Job Responsibilities

  • Follow laboratory procedures for specimen handling, processing, testing, reporting, and maintaining patient test records.
  • Process proficiency testing samples using the same procedures as patient specimens.
  • Analyze specimens using approved testing methods.
  • Review, verify, and release test results.
  • Comply with CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA, and all laboratory safety regulations.
  • Follow established laboratory policies and procedures when testing systems fall outside acceptable performance levels.
  • Identify issues that may affect test performance or result reporting.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve problems when possible or promptly notify the senior technologist or supervisor.
  • Maintain accurate and complete laboratory documentation.

Required Qualifications

Education

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry strongly preferred.
  • Official transcripts will be requested during the hiring process.

Experience

  • 1 year of clinical laboratory experience performing high-complexity testing preferred.
  • Experience with LC-MS (Liquid Chromatography–Mass Spectrometry) or ICP-MS (Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry) strongly preferred.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to stand and work at a laboratory bench for extended periods.
  • Frequent walking and standing throughout the workday.
  • Ability to lift and carry:
    • 1–10 lbs: Frequently
    • 11–25 lbs: Occasionally
    • 36–50 lbs: Rarely
    • Over 50 lbs: Only with assistance

Knowledge & Skills

  • Knowledge of laboratory quality standards and regulatory compliance.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to follow standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Strong communication skills for reporting issues and collaborating with laboratory staff.
