The Medical Lab Scientist III performs routine and complex clinical laboratory testing to support high-quality patient care. This role evaluates specimen acceptability, operates and troubleshoots laboratory instrumentation, and ensures accurate and timely reporting of results in accordance with established standard operating procedures. The position requires extensive clinical laboratory experience, strong technical judgment, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

• Determine the acceptability of specimens for testing according to established criteria and departmental procedures.
• Perform routine and complex technical laboratory procedures in accordance with departmental Standard Operating Procedures.
• Monitor, operate, and troubleshoot laboratory instrumentation to ensure proper functionality and minimize downtime.
• Make sound technical decisions regarding testing, result interpretation, and problem solving.
• Prepare, test, and evaluate new reagents or controls to ensure accuracy and reliability of test results.
• Report test results accurately and in a timely manner to support quality patient care.
• Perform and document preventive maintenance on laboratory instruments and equipment.
• Conduct and document quality control procedures to ensure compliance with regulatory and laboratory standards.
• Identify, monitor, and replenish testing bench supplies as necessary to maintain continuous workflow.
• Assist with the processing of specimens when needed to support overall laboratory operations.
• Maintain a safe work environment by following safety protocols and wearing appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Collaborate with team members and other departments to ensure efficient and effective laboratory services.
• Use laboratory information systems and computer applications to enter, review, and manage test data as required.

Essential Skills

• Bachelor"s degree in Biology, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or other related field, or meeting applicable local CLIA or state regulatory requirements.
• Minimum of 5-7 years of clinical laboratory testing experience.
• State Medical Technologist license if required by local regulations (requirements will specify when applicable).
• ASCP or AMT certification when required or preferred by the specific assignment.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and effectively within a team environment.
• Proficiency with computers and ability to use laboratory-related software.
• High level of attention to detail to ensure accuracy and reliability of test results.
• Strong communication skills to convey information clearly to colleagues and other healthcare professionals.
• Strong organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and prioritize workload in a busy laboratory setting.
• Ability to pass a standardized color vision screen to accurately interpret test results and quality controls.
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot instrumentation and resolve technical issues in the laboratory.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Familiarity with laboratory information systems (LIS) is a plus.
• ASCP or AMT certification is preferred when not required, as it demonstrates advanced professional competency.
• Previous experience as a Medical Technologist, Medical Laboratory Scientist, or Clinical Laboratory Scientist.
• Comfort working with a variety of laboratory instruments, reagents, and controls.
• Ability to adapt to changing business needs, including schedule and workload adjustments.

Work Environment

This role operates in a clinical laboratory environment with a primary schedule of 10:00 p.m. to 6:30 a.m., Monday through Friday. The position involves working with laboratory instruments, reagents, and patient specimens while following strict safety and quality protocols. Team members wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) and adhere to laboratory safety standards at all times. The environment is fast-paced and technology-driven, requiring consistent use of computers and laboratory information systems to manage test data and workflow.

This is a Contract position based out of Nashville, TN.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $44.62 - $44.62/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
