    CLASSIFICATION: Non-Exempt - On Call

    REPORTS TO: Clinic Manager or Laboratory Supervisor

    SUMMARY/OBJECTIVE: Provides professional team-based care to patients. Assists in the continuum of care and in educating patients on their patient centered medical home. Performs a variety of support services in the clinic laboratory, provides phlebotomy services for all clients, and performs limited routine laboratory testing in the clinical laboratory.

    ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES: (This list may not include all of the duties assigned)

    1. Obtains blood specimens from patients by venipuncture, arterial, or capillary puncture; collects specimens via other methods for testing. Identifies and labels specimens, sends them to laboratory for analysis, and documents patient medication dosages when appropriate. May conduct point of care testing. Reports results and maintains records of samples drawn per laboratory policies.
    2. Performs routine lab procedures and tests in hematology, chemistry, microbiology, urinalysis, and serology.
    3. Adhere to laboratory's quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed.
    4. Be capable of identifying problems that may adversely affect test results and be able to either correct the problem or immediately notify laboratory supervisor or lab director.
    5. Provide clinical staff with consultation on reference tests to assure correct test is ordered and proper collection and handling of specimens occurs.
    6. Strictly adhere to CLIA and laboratory's quality control policies and procedures, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations, and maintenance performed per level of qualification.
    7. Inventories laboratory supplies. Cleans equipment and work areas. Disposes of contaminated materials.
    8. Performs duties in all departments as qualified.
    9. Performs related work as required.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

    Medical Lab Assistant

    Required:

    1. Graduation from high school or GED.

    Preferred:

    1. Word Processing and computer experience
    2. Phlebotomy and clinical or hospital laboratory testing experience

    Medical Lab Technician

    Required:

    1. Two year Associates degree in a science related field such as chemical, physical, or biological science, or Medical Technology Certification in field of study preferred.

    Preferred:

    1. Word Processing and computer experience
    2. One year of Phlebotomy and clinical or hospital laboratory testing experience

    Medical Technologist

    Required:

    1. Bachelor of Science in a science related field such as chemical, physical, or biological science, or Medical Technology Certification in field of study preferred.

    Preferred:

    1. Word Processing and computer experience
    2. One year of Phlebotomy and clinical or hospital laboratory testing experience
