Medical front office assistants are often the first point of contact for patients. They greet visitors, collect patient information, answer questions, schedule appointments, and verify insurance coverage. They also handle daily administrative tasks to keep the medical office organized, efficient, and running smoothly.


    Key job responsibilities for a medical front office assistant may include:

    •   Answer phone calls, emails and in-person inquiries
    •  Communicate with patients, schedule appointments, request medical records, and send referrals
    •  Gather and track medical information from patients
    •  Organize and input data into electronic health records
    •  Verify patients’ health insurance coverage
    •  Support office with administrative and secretarial tasks
    •  Communicate with providers and third parties to ensure patients are helped and tasks are completed
    •  Understand and maintain HIPAA regulations


    Skills and qualifications needed:

    • Customer service skills and telephone etiquette
    • Familiarity with medical terms and technology
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Strong knowledge of medical language and health insurance plans
    • Experience with Availity, Quanum, and EHR Practice Fusion a plus
    • Strong computer, data entry, and Microsoft Office skills required
    • Previous medical Front office experience required
    • Attention to detail and problem-solving skills
    • Strong interpersonal, time management, and organizational skills
    • Understanding of law and ethics pertaining to medical practices
