    Description

    The Medical Director is responsible for clinical leadership, operational oversight, and execution of initiatives across Stamford Health Medical Group Walk-In Urgent Care services.

    The Medical Director works collaboratively with executive and operational leadership, physicians, and advanced practice providers to support organizational priorities related to quality, patient experience, operational efficiency, access, and provider engagement.

    The Medical Director:

    • Provides clinical and operational leadership for Urgent Care services
    • Oversees implementation of clinical standards, workflows, and operational initiatives
    • Promotes high-quality, efficient, patient-centered care delivery
    • Serves as a liaison between frontline providers, site leadership, and system leadership
    • Supports provider engagement, accountability, and performance improvement

    The Medical Director will be a practicing physician involved in clinical practice for an agreed upon amount of work time with the remainder devoted to administrative responsibilities.

    The Medical Director works collaboratively in a dyad/triad leadership model with operational leadership and nursing/site management to ensure effective clinical operations across urgent care locations.

    MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES

    The Medical Director will provide clinical and operational leadership in the development, implementation, and management of walk-in urgent care services.

    An effective Medical Director will be responsible for the following:

    Clinical & Operational Leadership

    • Provide leadership to urgent care physicians and advanced practice providers
    • Promote collaboration, communication, and alignment across urgent care sites
    • Oversee implementation of clinical policies, workflows, and standardization initiatives
    • Ensure clinical operations are consistent with established policies, procedures, and evidence-based practice
    • Support timely, efficient, and patient-centered care delivery

    Quality, Access, and Performance Improvement

    • Lead initiatives related to:

    • Quality outcomes

    • Patient satisfaction

    • Throughput and operational efficiency

    • Access and same-day care availability

    • Monitor performance metrics and implement improvement plans as needed

    • Support peer review, quality assurance, patient safety, and risk management processes

    • Promote appropriate utilization, documentation quality, and clinical consistency

    Provider Leadership & Engagement

    • Provide guidance and support to physicians and advanced practice providers
    • Assist in provider onboarding, mentoring, and performance management
    • Reinforce productivity, professionalism, documentation, and patient experience expectations
    • Foster provider engagement and teamwork across sites

    Strategic & Operational Initiatives

    • Support implementation of strategic plans developed by executive leadership
    • Assist with rollout of new clinical programs, workflows, technologies, and care models
    • Participate in business planning, growth initiatives, and service line development
    • Collaborate with operational leadership regarding staffing models, scheduling, and site efficiency

    Physician Recruitment & Retention

    • Support recruitment efforts including:

    • Candidate evaluation

    • Interview participation

    • Onboarding support

    • Assist in physician and APP engagement and retention strategies

    • Support leadership development and succession planning

    Administrative & Organizational Responsibilities

    • Serve on committees as requested
    • Support communication and implementation of organizational policies and procedures
    • Assist in resolving operational issues between sites and system leadership
    • Promote alignment with physician employment agreements and organizational expectations

    Billing, Documentation & Compliance

    • Promote accurate, timely, and compliant clinical documentation and coding practices
    • Identify and communicate operational or billing concerns impacting efficiency or revenue cycle performance
    • Partner with operations leadership to improve workflow efficiency and financial performance
    • Ensure compliance with applicable regulatory, accreditation, and organizational requirements
