Medical Director SANE Program-HHK-Sacaton

Position Summary: Ensures the delivery of high-quality care by developing procedures and protocols for all aspects of patient care, providing consultative services to SANE forensic nursing staff, and participating in quality assurance processes. Provides developmental support for new and current staff and coordinates across departments to ensure that department goals are met and exceeded. Contributes to department research studies, lectures community groups, and assists in the development and expansion of the SANE Forensic Nursing Department.

Critical Tasks:

• Develops procedures and protocols for patient care, administration of medication, and the creation of referrals to ensure the effective operations of the SANE forensic nursing department.
• Writes and signs testing and standing orders to ensure appropriate analysis and effective delivery of care.
• Orders and interprets lab and medical imaging data and makes appropriate diagnosis, treatment and follow up recommendations.
• Performs medical forensic exams and follow up examinations as needed. Exam procedures may include, but not limited to, gathering a medical forensic history, comprehensive head to toe physical and ano-genital exam, evidence collection, digital photography, medication administration and education and wound care.
• Records physical examination findings through accurate and non-biased documentation.
• Recommends and offers treatment and/or referrals for primary or secondary medical conditions related to injuries or sequalae as a result of sexual or physical violence. Confers with other professionals and/or medical staff as relevant to confirm diagnosis and make treatment recommendations.
• Ensures quality assurance by review of all patient charts and outcomes according to national quality assurance / peer review protocols; reviews findings with staff to improve quality of care provided and documentation process. Complies with all regulatory requirements and standards of contemporary medical care.
• Assists with the orientation and development of forensic nurse examiners to ensure competency in performing medical forensic examinations.
• Maintains fiscal management of the department including development and implementation of the department's budget. Applies for applicable federal and state grants as appropriate to supplement the budget.
• Coordinates across internal departments to ensure that all patient needs are met in a timely manner.
• Coordinates across community departments, including Law Enforcement, Prosecution, and Advocacy to improve the response to victims of sexual or physical violence.
• Contributes to department research studies and to the development and expansion of the department.
• Lectures to various internal and community groups as a part of the SANE department.
• Demonstrates ability to clearly communicate, both orally and in writing, while performing all essential functions.
• Performs other job-related activities as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

• Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) as a Nurse Practitioner required, DNP or PhD preferred
• Current, unrestricted and valid State of Arizona license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner from the Arizona State Board of Nursing. If licensed in other states, must possess such Arizona license within one (1) year of hire.
• Current or eligible for Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) licensure or ability to obtain upon hire.
• Current BLS (CPR) certification.
• Minimum five (5) years experience in forensic nursing practice with pediatric and adult patients with at least two (2) of those years as a Nurse Practitioner.
• Minimum two (2) years experience in examining and assessing non-forensic adults and children required. May include experience gained as a Registered Nurse.
