We are seeking an experienced Medical Director (Behavioral Health) to provide clinical leadership and oversight across behavioral health programs within a managed care environment. This role serves as a senior clinical advisor, supporting medical management functions including utilization review, quality initiatives, and care coordination.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong background in psychiatry, managed care, and behavioral health program development, with the ability to collaborate cross-functionally and influence clinical strategy.
Provide clinical leadership and oversight for behavioral health programs and initiatives
Serve as a subject matter expert and consultant on behavioral health clinical matters
Support utilization management, quality management, case management, and disease management functions
Conduct medical necessity reviews and participate in peer-to-peer discussions with providers
Collaborate with senior leadership and cross-functional teams to develop and implement integrated behavioral health strategies
Review clinical cases, quality studies, and program outcomes to identify improvement opportunities
Provide guidance and clinical support to internal teams and stakeholders
Participate in committees, projects, and clinical advisory activities
Contribute to process improvement initiatives and overall program effectiveness
MD or DO degree
Board Certification in Psychiatry
Active, unrestricted medical license in the United States
U.S. Citizenship
Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Defense (DoD) clearance
5+ years of clinical practice experience
5+ years of medical management experience within a managed care environment
Experience with:
Utilization Management (UM)
Quality Management (QM)
Case Management (CM)
Disease Management (DM)
Experience working with government healthcare programs (e.g., TRICARE, VA, or similar)
Advanced training or certification in medical management
Experience in behavioral health program development and clinical leadership roles
Strong knowledge of managed care, behavioral health practices, and quality improvement methodologies
Familiarity with URAC standards, regulatory requirements, and HIPAA compliance
Ability to operate effectively in a matrixed, cross-functional environment
Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Strong clinical judgment and decision-making capabilities
Ability to influence and collaborate with clinical and executive leadership
Remote, office-based work environment
Standard business hours with flexibility for occasional extended hours as needed
Minimal travel required
Candidates must successfully complete a credentialing process, including verification of licensure, board certification, and professional standing
Position requires the ability to obtain and maintain appropriate security clearance
