    Job Summary

    We are seeking an experienced Medical Director / AP/CP Pathologist to provide medical leadership and diagnostic pathology services for a hospital-based pathology practice in Kalamazoo, Michigan. This full-time, onsite position combines Medical Director responsibilities with general Anatomic and Clinical Pathology duties.

    The practice processes approximately 14,000 cases annually and offers a manageable workload with no autopsy responsibilities and very light call, shared on a rotating basis. The Pathologist will join a collaborative team that includes general surgical pathology and hematopathology expertise.

    This is an excellent opportunity for a Pathologist seeking a leadership role while remaining actively involved in diagnostic practice.

    Responsibilities

    • Serve as Medical Director, providing clinical and medical oversight of pathology and laboratory operations.
    • Diagnose and interpret a broad range of Anatomic and Clinical Pathology specimens.
    • Review and sign out general surgical pathology cases accurately and efficiently.
    • Provide medical consultation and pathology expertise to physicians and other clinical professionals.
    • Oversee laboratory quality, patient safety, and appropriate clinical practices.
    • Ensure compliance with applicable CLIA, CAP, regulatory, accreditation, and laboratory standards.
    • Participate in quality assurance, quality improvement, and proficiency testing activities.
    • Provide leadership and guidance to laboratory staff and collaborate with administrative and clinical leadership.
    • Review and support laboratory policies, procedures, testing methodologies, and performance standards.
    • Participate in light rotating call coverage with other Pathologists.
    • Collaborate with General Surgical Pathologists and Hematopathologists on complex or specialized cases.
    • Maintain accurate, timely, and clinically relevant pathology reporting.
    • Support efficient turnaround times and continuous improvement of laboratory services.

    Qualifications & Requirements

    • 10% Annual performance bonus

    • The facility processes approximately 14,000 cases annually, with no autopsies and very light call responsibilities shared on a rotating basis.
    • The current team includes:
      • 1.5 full-time Pathologists
      • Two part-time Pathologists: one Hematopathologist and one General Surgical Pathologist
    • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
    • Board Certified in Anatomic and Clinical Pathology (AP/CP) preferred; Board Eligible candidates may be considered depending on experience.
    • Ability to obtain and maintain an unrestricted Michigan medical license.
    • General surgical pathology experience required.
    • Previous Medical Director, laboratory leadership, or supervisory experience strongly preferred.
    • Strong understanding of laboratory quality management, regulatory requirements, and accreditation standards.
    • Excellent diagnostic, organizational, leadership, and decision-making skills.
    • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to work collaboratively with Pathologists, laboratory professionals, physicians, and hospital leadership.
    • Commitment to quality, patient safety, regulatory compliance, and timely diagnostic services.
    • Must be comfortable participating in a light rotating call schedule.
    • Visa sponsorship is not available for this position.
