    Our medical billing specialist submits insurance claims, follows up on payments, manages rejected claims and patient accounts, and maintains patient records to ensure timely and accurate reimbursement for healthcare services. Key responsibilities include accurately coding procedures and diagnoses, communicating with insurance companies and patients, and ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations. The role requires strong knowledge of medical coding systems, billing software, and healthcare regulations, as well as strong communication and analytical skills. 
    This position is on site in Auburn, AL.  Hours are Monday - Thursday 7:45am - 5:00pm, Friday 7:45am - 12:00pm
    Key Responsibilities
    • Prepare, submit, and track claims and invoices to patients and various insurance companies (e.g., Medicare, Medicaid, commercial insurers). 
    • Post payments, reconcile Explanations of Benefits (EOBs), and manage and follow up on outstanding account balances, including creating payment plans for patients. 
    • Investigate and resolve denied claims by contacting insurance companies and submitting appeals for denied payments. 
    • Address patient billing inquiries, explain account balances, and provide information on payment options. 
    • Maintain accurate patient health information and billing records in both electronic and hard-copy formats. 
    • Familiarity with insurance and billing practices specific to the state of Alabama
    • Adhere to HIPAA regulations and stay updated on healthcare regulations, medical terminology, and coding practices. 
    • Act as a liaison between patients, doctors, and insurance companies, resolving discrepancies and facilitating communication. 
    Essential Skills & Qualifications
    • Proficiency with medical billing software, electronic health records (EHR) systems, and knowledge of common coding systems like CPT and ICD-10. 
    • Ability to analyze billing issues, resolve discrepancies, and identify solutions for complex claims. 
    • Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with patients, insurance representatives, and healthcare providers. 
    • The ability to ensure accuracy in medical coding and billing data to prevent errors and ensure proper reimbursement. 
    • A high school diploma is required.  An associate's degree and professional certifications such as CPB from AAPC or CBCS from NHA is preferred.
