    Description

    The Position

    Teach high school students the Medical Assisting state curriculum for the 2026-2027 school year.

    Assist in other Healthcare programs as needed.

    Provide instruction in all aspects of medical assisting to prepare students for entry-level employment in the healthcare industry or to continue at the post-secondary level. Create a valid standards/skills-based curriculum that leads to the NHA Certified Clinical Medical Assistant certification. Help students build professional skills by integrating employability skills such as working with others, good attendance, a strong work ethic, and a positive attitude. Establish relationships with local employers in the healthcare industry to maintain a strong program Advisory Board and secure work-based learning opportunities for the medical assistant pathway students.

    Work Schedule

    This is a full-time teaching position, 185 days, full benefits, and TRF retirement.

    It follows the Pike school calendar. The teachers contract hours are approximately Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m.

    • NOTE: Employment is year-to-year and based on having sufficient enrollment.

    Qualifications

    Candidates must possess or be eligible for an Indiana Health Occupations teaching license based on 3-5 years of related work experience as a Medical Assistant, LPN, or RN in the past 10 years.

    Bachelor's degree required.

    Experience in a hospital or medical office setting is preferred.

    Job Responsibilities

    Develop and revise a standards-based curriculum that leads to relevant industry certifications or dual credit attainment with post-secondary institutions.

    Ability to develop rapport, communicate effectively, and demonstrate professionalism with high school students, parents, staff, and community partners.

    Flexibility and the ability to address situations as they arise.

    Maintain accurate student records by taking timely attendance, grading classwork, including assignments, projects, and tests, and keeping them electronically updated.

    Use effective classroom and lab management techniques to maintain safety, implement the program curriculum, and develop daily lessons.

    Be active in the recruitment efforts of students and promote the program to maintain the necessary enrollment.

    Collaborate with our work-based learning coordinator to develop opportunities for students, such as job shadowing, micro-internships, and apprenticeships.

    Form and work with an advisory committee to procure materials and supplies, maintain updated equipment and curriculum, and develop industry partnerships.

    Work with school administration as needs arise.
