    Description

    SUMMARY: Assists Physician and Nurses with patient care through the performance of duties as dictated by TCA and MWCHC.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:The following are indicative of the essential functions required to perform this job successfully. Other duties may be assigned by management.

    Assist physicians/nurse practitioners with examinations and procedures as needed

    Monitors and documents vital signs including temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respirations, as well as chief complaints, nursing history, and allergy history

    Works in other suites ('float') as needed

    Deliver and administer oxygen (O2) after LPN and/or RN initiate the process

    Administer medication as dictated by protocol

    Assist patients in understanding provider orders

    Responsible for training all new medical assistants

    Monitor and document vital signs including temperature, blood pressure, pulse, and respirations, as well as chief complaints, medical history and allergy history for patients

    Administer allowed injections/shots to patients

    Set up exam rooms with appropriate supplies and equipment

    Process patient referrals in a timely manner

    Adhere to Universal Precautions and OSHA Guidelines

    Assists the Clinical Nurse Manager in the establishment and promotion of administrative policies and practice which enable Clinical Support staff (i.e., medical assistants) to increase their clinical skills

    Assists the Clinical Nurse Manager in the recruitment and selection of clinical support staff (i.e., medical assistants)

    Responsible for training all new medical assistants

    Participate in CQI and TJC committees to ensure standards compliance (as needed)

    Conduct daily, weekly and monthly quality walkthroughs

    Conduct audits to assure the provision of good, quality care

    Stamps DNKA charts and mails DNKA letters

    Stocks forms and supplies

    Keeps suite neat and clean

    Reports all emergencies, incidents, and significant findings immediately to the Clinical Nurse Manager

    Directs telephone calls delivered to the suite

    Responsible for the maintenance of patient confidentiality and adherence to Patient Rights and Responsibilities, as issued in the New Hire Orientation

    Adheres to all MWCHC policies and procedures

    Arrives at work on time and complies with MWCHC attendance and tardiness policies

    Possesses the ability to get along with co-workers, patients and visitors

    Performs all other duties as assigned by management

    THE MEDICAL ASSISTANT MAY NOT START INTRVENOUS FLUIDS OR O2 ADMINISTRATION.

    QUALIFICATIONS/REQUIREMENTS:To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.     EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:

    High School diploma, or equivalent, is required. Must hold a diploma from an accredited Medical Assistant school, certification preferred. One year of previous experience in a Healthcare facility is required. Must hold a valid CPR certification, which must be maintained throughout employment.

    LANGUAGE SKILLS:

    Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating/maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions and speak effectively before groups and in one-on-one situations.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

    Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute basic percentages.

    REASONING ABILITY:

    Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram format. Ability to deal with problems involving several variables.

    OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

    The Medical Assistant is expected to use initiative, creativity, integrity, and communication skills in providing patient care. All patient information is considered confidential, and a high degree of confidentiality is required of all nursing personnel. Cooperation with Administration, the Director of Nursing Services and other departmental supervisory staff assures that nursing goals and objectives are met with the highest quality of nursing practice. Conduct and dress will be professional at all times. Excellent organizational skills with acute attention to detail are a must. Must have a strong work ethic.

    Specific vision abilities required of this job include close vision, peripheral vision, color vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus.

Employee is required to be aware of and in compliance with MWCHC, state and federal OSHA regulations as they pertain to these factors, and others typical of a clinical setting.
