Job Title: Medical AssistantJob Description

This Medical Assistant role combines direct patient care with front office responsibilities in a fast-paced healthcare setting. You will support both clinical and administrative functions, ensuring that patients receive high-quality, compassionate care while the practice operates efficiently and in full compliance with HIPAA and office policies. Responsibilities

  • Provide both patient care and front office support to ensure smooth daily operations.
  • Receive and direct all communications courteously and consistently, adhering to HIPAA guidelines and office policies.
  • Answer phone calls promptly, route calls appropriately, and provide accurate information to patients and colleagues.

  • Assist patients with the sign-in process and respond promptly and professionally to their needs and questions.
  • Support financial responsibilities by staying current on reimbursement and billing procedures.
  • Accurately verify information on the Audit Journal and ensure all required data is complete and correct.
  • Prepare bank deposits and credit card batches, and sign and date completed daily cash receipts to maintain accurate financial records.
  • Monitor general office supply inventory and equipment, ensuring adequate stock and functionality.
  • Collaborate with team members to identify and fulfill their supply and equipment needs.
  • Utilize electronic health record systems, including athena, to document patient information accurately and efficiently.
  • Assist with insurance verification and appointment scheduling to support patient access and continuity of care.
  • Apply medical terminology and knowledge of neurology, as applicable, in daily tasks and patient interactions.
  • Demonstrate a strong sense of accountability for improving the lives of patients and their caregivers in every interaction.
  • Work effectively as part of a team, contributing to a collaborative and supportive environment.
  • Engage in ongoing education and training to maintain and enhance clinical and administrative skills.
  • Deliver high-quality, patient-focused care with professionalism, empathy, and attention to detail.
  • Travel to various practice locations as needed to support patient care and office operations.

Essential Skills

  • Experience providing both patient care and front office support in a healthcare setting.
  • Proficiency with electronic health records, including athena or similar systems.
  • Hands-on medical assisting and patient care skills.
  • Knowledge of healthcare practices, medical terminology, and basic clinical procedures.
  • Experience with insurance verification and appointment scheduling.
  • Understanding of billing and reimbursement procedures and ability to support financial workflows.
  • Strong customer service skills with the ability to interact professionally and courteously with patients, visitors, and staff.
  • Ability to receive and direct communications while strictly adhering to HIPAA guidelines and office policies.
  • Strong sense of accountability and commitment to improving patient and caregiver experiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to learn quickly and adapt to changing patient needs and practice requirements.
  • Exceptional teamwork skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues.
  • Dedication to ongoing education and continuous improvement in both clinical and administrative areas.
  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) credential.
  • Minimum 1+ year of relevant experience in a medical assistant or similar role, or a strong hospital externship as an alternative.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to various locations as required.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience working in neurology or specialty care environments.
  • Prior experience using athena or comparable electronic health record platforms.
  • Background in a large hospital or health system setting.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage financial tasks such as preparing bank deposits, credit card batches, and daily cash receipts.
  • Strong organizational skills for monitoring office supplies and equipment.
  • Proven ability to maintain a welcoming and professional demeanor with patients and visitors.
  • Motivation to grow within a large healthcare organization and take on additional responsibilities over time.

Work Environment

This role is based in a modern healthcare facility within a large hospital group, offering significant opportunities for growth and professional development. You will work in a clinical and administrative environment that utilizes electronic health records, including athena, and follows structured billing, reimbursement, and documentation procedures. The position operates on a weekday schedule with no weekend shifts, supporting work-life balance. You may be required to travel between various practice locations as needed. The dress code requires professional clinical attire, including scrubs and closed-toe shoes, to maintain a safe and hygienic environment.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of NEPTUNE, NJ.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $21.00 - $28.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
