Physicians Surgical Hospitals includes two surgical centers - Panhandle Surgical Hospital and Quail Creek Surgical Hospital, and one physical therapy center - Quail Creek Physical Therapy - and a state-of-the-art diagnostic imaging center, Advanced Imaging Center of Amarillo. Patient visit support that may include: Greeting patients , and escorting patient to exam room and/or t aking patients’ vital signs, and other applicable medical information to effectively support the reason for the patients visit and recommended treatment .

Learn About a Day in the Life of a Medical Assistant:

Responsibilities:

• Enters, maintains, and reports all medical history, medical coding, and files claims using an Electronic Medical Record (EMR). 
• Patient visit support that may include: Greeting patients, and escorting patient to exam room and/or taking patients’ vital signs, and other applicable medical information to effectively support the reason for the patients visit and recommended treatment.  
• Sterilizes and prepares medical instruments. Ensures patient exam rooms are disinfected, orderly, and ready for incoming patients. Provides patients with privacy, comfort, safety and hygiene.  
• Assists in maintaining inventory and stocking supplies, instruments and equipment for all exam rooms. 
• Maintains appropriate paperwork for inventory control and reviews orders received for completeness. 
• Addresses and requests referrals and other insurance authorizations in addition to passing along patient information for prescription, x-ray or lab requisitions to necessary parties. This includes calls to pharmacies, hospitals, and labs

Qualifications:

Job Requirements:

• High school diploma or GED equivalent. 
• Basic Electronic Medical Record (EMR) and Microsoft Office knowledge. 
•  

• BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.

Preferred Job Requirements:

• Associate’s degree. 
• Graduate from an accredited medical assistant/medical technologist school/program. 
• Prior experience in a clinic or hospital setting supporting patient care 
• Current national certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or Registered Medical Assistant (RMA).
