The Medical Assistant (MA) ensures efficient patient flow in outpatient settings and acts as a patient liaison, contributing to clinical operations and the patient experience. Under the supervision of licensed personnel, the MA manages patient care preparation, adapts to variations in patient volume, and is allowed incidental access to medication within secure storage areas.

Key Responsibilities

  • Patient Flow Management: Control and monitor patient flow to maximize provider and exam room efficiency, making adjustments based on patient volume and resource availability.

  • Room and Patient Preparation: Prepare exam rooms according to patient needs, escort patients, ensure their comfort, and prepare medical records by confirming accurate patient data.

  • Clinical Support and Testing: Perform and record vital signs, conduct routine and point-of-care tests, and assist with collections such as phlebotomy and nasopharyngeal swabs under supervision.

  • Supply and Equipment Management: Ensure the availability and readiness of necessary supplies and equipment, coordinate supply orders, and maintain inventory, stock supplies, and rotate them as required.

  • Quality Assurance and Participation: Follow safety and waste disposal procedures, participate in quality improvement projects and unit meetings, and ensure clinic rooms meet Infection Prevention policies.

Minimum Qualifications

Education

  • High School diploma or GED program required

License/Certification

  • CPR and Basic Life Support Certification
  • NCCA (National Commission for Certifying Agencies) requires that Medical Certification or OR certification needs to be completed within one year of hire date.

Any of the following is acceptable:

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) from the American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)
  • Registered Medical Assistant (RMA) from the American Medical Technologists National
  • Certified Medical Assistant (NCMA) from the National Center for Competency Testing
  • Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) from the National Health Career Association
  • Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC) from the American Medical Certification Association

The posted pay range is Boston Childrens reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.

Any base pay offer provided depends on skills, experience, education, certifications, and a variety of other job-related factors.
