Description

Job Title: Medical Assistant
Location: NYC, NY
Duration: 03 months Contract
Schedule: Monday-Friday, 12pm-8pm (Radiology environment experience especially MRI.)
Hourly rate: $21/hour on W2 (Negotiable)
Job Duties
  • Provide patient care as assigned, including:
    • Perform venipuncture and EKGs.
    • Check schedules and coordinate patient flow.
    • Escort patients to exam/procedure rooms.
    • Assist patients with walking, transferring, and dressing as needed.
    • Collect and process specimens and perform point-of-care testing.
    • Prepare patients and exam rooms for procedures.
    • Assist physicians with various procedures.
    • Take and document vital signs.
    • Relay instructions and information to patients and families.
    • Answer telephone calls and provide appropriate information.
  • Perform clerical responsibilities, including:
    • Send and receive patient medical records.
    • Obtain laboratory, X-ray, hospital, referral, and other medical records.
    • Complete forms and requisitions as needed.
    • Maintain, organize, and file patient charts.
    • Update information in the electronic medical record (EMR) or manually as required.
  • Enter physician orders into the EMR for review and approval.
  • Prepare prescription refill requests for physician review and approval.
  • Inventory, order, and restock medical supplies as needed.
  • Set up examination rooms and instruments in accordance with sterilization and infection-control policies.
  • Maintain required logs for:
    • Medication refrigeration
    • Point-of-care testing
    • Sterilization processes
    • Crash cart
    • Other applicable clinical processes
  • Check expiration dates on medications and medical supplies and dispose of expired items according to institutional policy.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following established standards, procedures, and applicable regulations.
  • Follow personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements to protect against exposure to:
    • Blood and potentially infectious body fluids
    • Chemical disinfectants
    • Radiation
    • Other hazardous substances
  • Maintain medical charts, including filing operative reports, test results, home-care forms, and other documentation.
  • Schedule surgeries and procedures, or coordinate with the Surgical Coordinator to:
    • Verify procedure times with patients.
    • Prepare charts.
    • Prepare pre-admission documentation.
    • Obtain and prepare consent forms as necessary.
  • Perform proficient phlebotomy duties as required.
  • Schedule and register patients.
  • Update patient demographic and insurance information.
  • Maintain, adjust, and confirm patient office schedules.
  • Verify and update insurance information using internal systems and web-based resources.
  • Perform and verify pre-certification for procedures as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

  • Work Environment: General office/clinical environment
  • Position does not routinely require strenuous physical activity such as frequent or sustained lifting or carrying.
Computer Skills
  • Microsoft Office Suite: Basic proficiency
  • Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) or billing systems preferred but not required.
General Skills & Competencies
  • Ability to communicate effectively with multicultural patients and patients with language barriers.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent telephone etiquette.
  • Proficiency in medical terminology.
  • Knowledge of HIPAA guidelines and patient confidentiality requirements.
