Medical Assistant – Surgical Dermatology – Full-Time – Triangle Area

A growing, multi-site dermatology practice in the Triangle area is seeking an experienced Full-Time Medical Assistant with strong surgical and procedural experience to support a high-volume provider in a fast-paced, procedure-heavy dermatology setting. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in surgical environments, is comfortable supporting long clinic days, and can maintain excellent patient care and workflow efficiency across multiple clinic locations.
The provider this role supports works a 5-day-per-week schedule with a heavy surgical caseload, so prior experience assisting with surgical dermatology or general surgical procedures is highly preferred.
What You’ll Do
Prepare and room patients for surgical and general dermatology appointments
Obtain medical histories, update medications/allergies, and document accurately in EMR during visits
Assist providers during dermatologic surgical procedures including:
Mohs procedures
Excisions
ED&C procedures
Nail procedures
Biopsies
Cryotherapy
Incision & drainage
Suture removal
Sterile dressing application and wound care
Set up and break down procedure trays while maintaining sterile technique
Support efficient patient flow during high-volume surgical clinic days
Provide detailed patient education regarding procedures, medications, wound care, and post-operative instructions
Perform clinical tasks after training, including injections, phlebotomy, patch testing, and specimen handling
Complete pathology/lab requisitions and assist with prior authorizations or patient follow-up as needed
Clean and sterilize instruments, restock supplies, and assist with inventory/equipment management
Travel between Cary, Sanford, Chapel Hill, and Fuquay-Varina locations as needed throughout the week
Required Qualifications
High School Diploma or GED
Certified Medical Assistant (CMA, RMA, or equivalent) preferred
2+ years of Medical Assistant experience in a clinical setting
Previous experience assisting with surgical or procedural-based specialties
Strong EMR/EHR documentation skills
Ability to multitask and remain organized in a fast-paced environment
Willingness to travel between clinic locations throughout the week
Flexibility to support longer clinic days when needed
Experience working with multiple providers and cross-covering between clinic locations
Familiarity with ModMed/EMA
Background in surgical dermatology, plastics, ENT, ophthalmology, or other procedure-heavy specialties
