Accounts Receivable Insurance Collections Specialist
About the Opportunity
LHH is partnering with a healthcare organization to hire an experienced Accounts Receivable Insurance Collections Specialist to support their Revenue Cycle team. This role focuses on resolving outstanding insurance balances, performing account research, and ensuring claims are reimbursed accurately and in a timely manner. The ideal candidate will have strong healthcare AR experience and a proven ability to navigate denial management, payer follow-up, and revenue cycle processes.
Primary Responsibilities
Follow up on outstanding insurance claims and work to secure appropriate reimbursement.
Research and resolve denied, rejected, and partially paid claims.
Review account activity to identify root causes of reimbursement issues and implement corrective actions.
Track denial trends and collaborate with internal teams to improve collection outcomes.
Maintain detailed and accurate account documentation while remaining compliant with payer and company guidelines.
Manage assigned work queues and prioritize accounts to meet productivity and quality expectations.
Qualifications
Experience
At least 5 years of healthcare Accounts Receivable and insurance follow-up experience.
Strong understanding of medical billing, insurance collections, and revenue cycle operations.
Technical Skills
Experience working within healthcare billing platforms; Athena IDX experience is highly preferred, though candidates with experience in comparable billing systems are encouraged to apply.
Comfortable navigating electronic billing and claims management systems.
Professional Skills
Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Self-motivated with the ability to work independently in a remote environment while meeting deadlines and productivity standards.
Education
Degree in Healthcare Administration is a plus, but not required.
Relevant experience will be considered in place of formal education.
Equipment Provided
Company-issued laptop, dual monitors, keyboard, mouse, and headset.
Candidates must have a reliable high-speed internet connection.
Equipment delivery may take approximately 1-2 weeks.
Training & Support
Comprehensive onboarding program, including new hire orientation and Athena IDX system training during the first two weeks.
Ongoing mentorship and workflow support provided by experienced pod leadership and payer-specific subject matter experts.
Position Details
Employment Type: Temp-to-Hire
Work Environment: Remote
Candidates located within one hour of Wake Forest, NC; Sunrise, FL; or Melville, NY will be expected to attend the office three days per month during designated Connection Weeks.
Candidates outside these markets may work fully remote.
Schedule: Full-Time, Monday-Friday
Hours: Flexible start time between 7:00 AM and 9:00 AM EST
Time Zone Requirement: Must be available to work Eastern Time hours
Compensation: $23.00-$25.00 per hour, based on experience
