POSITION TITLE: Media Specialist

SITE: Currituck County Middle School

REPORTS TO: Principal

SALARY: Per NC State Salary Schedule plus local supplement

STARTING DATE: August 2026

EDUCATION AND TRAINING REQUIRED:

  • Must hold or be eligible to hold appropriate NC license
  • Completion of an approved program at the master's degree level or above

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Media Coordinator duties aligned with NCDPI School Library Media Coordinator Standards
  • Planning and implementing for teaching and learning
  • Assesses learning and information needs of students and staff
  • Provides training and support to staff on technology integration
  • Provides instruction in digital citizenship in compliance with CIPA, including safe, ethical, and responsible technology use
  • Advocates and promotes reading and lifelong learning
  • Coordinates and coaches students for participation in the district Elementary Battle of the Books program and annual competition
  • Advocates the principles of intellectual freedom and ethical behavior
  • Planning and implementing for information access, evaluation and use
  • Creates and maintains an environment conducive to learning
  • Leads teachers and students in the collaborative process to select and evaluate resources that address curricular needs and learning goals for the information age

Technology & Device Management:

  • Supports school-based technology needs, including basic troubleshooting of devices and applications in the absence of on-site technical support
  • Manages Chromebook distribution and collection processes, including inventory and tracking
  • Coordinates and maintains records for student device fees, fines, and accountability procedures
  • Processes and documents Chromebook damage, repairs, and replacements in accordance with district guidelines

Program Administration & Leadership:

  • Planning and implementing for program administration
  • Collaborates with school staff to design and implement short and long-range plans to ensure balance among teaching, instructional technology, collection development, and program management
  • Organizes and maintains accurate inventories of print and non-print resources, technology materials, and equipment in the school library media facility in a manner that supports the mission, goals, and objectives of the school and maximizes intellectual and physical access to resources
  • Provides leadership in fostering a culture of literacy, inquiry, and digital learning
