Position Information

Position Title Media Services Technician UIW Mission

Position Summary

The Media Services Technician is responsible for assisting the Media Services Manager and Lead Media Services Technician in the installation of classroom audiovisual and instructional technology equipment and coordination/delivery of audiovisual services to UIW classrooms as requested by faculty or other staff. Execution of duties requires strict adherence to customer service standards. The position reports to Media Services Manager.

Job Duties

Job Duty Name Supports Media in Learning Spaces Description of Job Duties

  • Maintains, installs and supports classroom and meeting room technologies as required;
  • Troubleshoots audiovisual equipment issues as required in a timely fashion;
  • Provides training and support to faculty and staff of the use of classroom audiovisual equipment;
  • Maintains proficiency in the installation and maintenance of desktop and laptop computers;
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Oversees delivery and operation of requested audiovisual services;
  • Maintains and updates the work order ticketing system to reflect requests or project completion;
  • Reserves equipment as required in support of instructional and other campus activities.

Required Education

High School diploma or equivalent.

Required Work Experience

One (1) year of related professional experience working with audiovisual technologies. Note that technical coursework in audiovisual technologies or related field will be considered in lieu of experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with AMX, Biamp, Crestron and Extron.
  • Experience working with wired and wireless networks.
  • Experience working in an academic institution.
  • Some college with IT coursework.

Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations

Must have a valid driver's license, driving record that is insurable by UIW insurance carrier, and be at least 21 years of age, as required to drive for UIW.

Work Hours

Hours are semester based and subject to change:

  • Fall /spring -9:30 am-6:30 pm
  • Summer - 8am to 5pm
  • Ability to work some weekends based on needs of the department.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs of equipment and repair gear.
  • Ability to reach, stoop, climb ladders, and crouch in small areas to access equipment and make basic repairs.
  • Hand dexterity to use tools in the set-up and repair of equipment.
  • Ability to move about campus from building to building to access event venues for setup and repair of systems as needed.

In 1881 the Sisters of Charity of the Incarnate Word founded Incarnate Word College as a center of higher education for young women. UIW is the largest Catholic university in Texas and the fourth-largest private university in the state. The enrollment reflects the diversity of South Texas, as more than 60 percent of the students are from racial or ethnic minority groups. UIW is ranked No. 1 nationally among faith-based universities in the conferring of bachelor’s degrees to Hispanics by the Hispanic Outlook in Higher Education Magazine, and No. 6 nationally among all private, not-for-profit universities.
