Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a correctional facility setting, requiring 2 years of recent acute care Med/Surg experience along with correctional experience.

Details

• Correctional health facility setting on a Med/Surg unit
• Day shift, 3x12 hours, 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM
• No block scheduling accommodations
• Every other weekend requirement (2 weekends per month)
• Mandatory float facility; floating within scope and specialty is standard and frequent
• May be floated to other Cook facilities up to 50 miles from home facility with as little as 2 hours notice
• Refusal to float may result in cancellation of assignment
• Uses Cerner charting system
• No on-call requirements

Requirements

• Active IL RN license required in hand at time of submission (no pending licenses accepted)
• BLS certification required
• Minimum 2 years of recent acute care Med/Surg experience required
• Correctional nursing experience required
• Cerner charting experience required
• Skilled in isolation precautions/PPE, wound care/wound vac, IV therapy/phlebotomy, peripheral line care, and cardiac monitoring
• Experience with oxygen administration, nasal cannula, and non-invasive airway management
• Familiarity with rapid response/code team protocols
• Two professional references required from supervisors within the past 2 years, with one from the most recent employer
• Proof of COVID vaccination required (booster not required)

Additional Information

• Provide direct patient care within a correctional Med/Surg unit, including wound care, IV therapy, and respiratory support
• May float to units outside primary competency, with team-based support provided in those cases
• Navy blue scrub color required
• Free, first-come first-served parking available
• RTO limited to 5 days max with no more than 2 consecutive days, and no RTO on weekends
• No holiday RTO permitted, and no RTO the day before or after a holiday
• Lab work must be completed within 72 hours of accepting the assignment
• Returning clinicians must undergo full recredentialing and orientation, even after breaks in contract shorter than 30 days
• Local candidates accepted within 75 miles of the facility
• First-time travelers are not considered for this role
