Description

American Traveler is hiring a Med/Surg RN for a correctional facility setting requiring 2 years of recent acute care experience and prior correctional experience.

Details

  • Correctional facility setting on a Med/Surg unit
  • Day shift schedule with 3x12-hour shifts from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM
  • No block scheduling accommodations available
  • Every other weekend requirement (2 weekends per month)
  • Mandatory float facility requiring clinicians to float within scope to meet facility needs across various units, including outside primary competency with team-based support
  • May float to other Cook facilities within 50 miles with as little as 2 hours notice
  • Uses Cerner charting system
  • No on-call requirements

Requirements

  • Active IL RN license required in hand at time of consideration (no pending licenses accepted)
  • Current BLS certification required
  • Minimum 2 years of recent acute care Med/Surg experience required
  • Correctional nursing experience required
  • Cerner charting system experience required
  • Skills required include isolation precautions/PPE, wound care/wound vac, IV therapy/phlebotomy, peripheral line care, cardiac monitoring, and use of rapid response/code teams
  • Experience with oxygen administration, nasal cannula, and non-invasive airway management required
  • Two professional references required from most recent supervisors within the past 2 years
  • Proof of COVID vaccine required with no exceptions

Additional Information

  • Provide Med/Surg nursing care within a correctional facility environment
  • Navy blue scrubs required
  • Free, first come first served parking available
  • RTO limited to 5 days max with no more than 2 consecutive days, and no RTO on weekends
  • No holiday RTO permitted, including the day before or after a holiday
  • Contract may be subject to cancellation if a call-out occurs on a holiday
  • Lab work must be completed within 72 hours of accepting the assignment
  • Returning clinicians must undergo full recredentialing and reattend orientation, even if the break in contract was less than 30 days
  • Local candidates accepted within a 75-mile radius of the facility at a reduced rate
  • Travel experience not required, making this position open to first-time travelers
