Mechanical Tool Designer
Location: Lewis Center, OH
Job Summary
We are seeking a Mechanical Tool Designer with 2 4 years of experience in mechanical, industrial, or manufacturing automation design. The ideal candidate will have experience with SolidWorks, AutoCAD, tooling, fixtures, conveyors, material handling, SPMs, and automated machinery. The role involves supporting the design, integration, and troubleshooting of automated manufacturing equipment while collaborating with engineering, electrical, programming, manufacturing, and offshore teams.
Responsibilities
  • Design and modify automation equipment, tooling, fixtures, conveyors, material handling systems, transfer mechanisms, and SPMs.
  • Support pick-and-place and robotic automation applications using pneumatic and servo technologies.
  • Support bowl feeder selection, high-speed automation line design, sensor selection, and standard component selection such as linear motion guides and servo motors.
  • Perform engineering calculations related to strength, speed, force, horsepower, temperature, and pressure.
  • Create working drawings, detail drawings, layouts, and bills of materials using AutoCAD and SolidWorks.
  • Review drawings for dimensions, materials, machining methods, finishes, hardness, manufacturability, and applicable OSHA, CE, and customer requirements.
  • Coordinate with electrical designers on switches, sensors, load cells, LVDTs, and other electrical devices.
  • Work with programmers on machine operations and sequences.
  • Support fabricators, machinists, toolmakers, and electricians during equipment build, debug, integration, and troubleshooting.
  • Select tools, fixtures, equipment, and purchased mechanical components and support related requisitions.
  • Maintain drawings and project documentation and communicate design progress, issues, and timelines.
  • Coordinate with onsite/offshore teams and support senior designers on project activities.
  • Follow applicable health, safety, and ISO procedures.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering.
  • 2 4 years of mechanical design experience, preferably in industrial or manufacturing automation.
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks and AutoCAD.
  • Experience with mechanical tooling, fixtures, automation equipment, conveyors, material handling, or SPMs.
  • Familiarity with pneumatic, servo, robotic, and pick-and-place systems.
  • Knowledge of bowl feeders, sensors, and standard mechanical components.
  • Ability to read engineering drawings and specifications and apply mechanical design principles.
  • Strong mechanical problem-solving and communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate with cross-functional and onsite/offshore teams.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with high-speed automation lines.
  • Experience supporting machine build, debug, integration, or troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with OSHA/CE requirements and ISO procedures.
