PGS Worldwide is seeking a Mechanical Test Technician in Redondo Beach, California for an approximately 15-month onsite contract-to-hire role supporting a leading aerospace & defense company. This position will support hydraulic and structural testing of complex flight and development hardware by assembling and operating hydraulic systems, configuring structural test equipment, installing instrumentation, and performing mechanical maintenance and repair.

Required Skills

  • High school diploma or GED.
  • 4+ years of experience performing mechanical technician responsibilities.
  • Experience reading and working from blueprints, technical drawings, diagrams, instructions, and/or schematics.
  • Experience with hydraulic systems and/or structural or mechanical testing of flight or development hardware.
  • Experience assembling, operating, maintaining, or troubleshooting hydraulic cylinders, actuators, power units, manifolds, or related components.
  • Ability to perform mechanical assembly, maintenance, and repair.
  • Basic electrical troubleshooting skills, including DC and resistance measurements.
  • Ability to use computers and software for test control, data acquisition, and documentation.
  • Ability to safely operate in high-pressure hydraulic and structural test environments.
  • Ability to frequently move and position objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in high-bay, laboratory, and cleanroom environments as required.
  • Ability to support off-hours, weekends, and alternate shifts when needed.
  • U.S. citizenship required.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.

Preferred Skills

  • Active DoD Secret clearance.
  • Experience with servo-hydraulic structural test systems and controllers.
  • Experience with data acquisition systems, including LabVIEW.
  • Experience installing strain gages and supporting calibration of load and pressure instrumentation.
  • Experience working in cleanroom environments and handling flight hardware.
  • Experience with mechanical repair and metal fabrication.
  • Experience operating cranes, forklifts, rigging equipment, and other material-handling equipment.

What You’ll Do

  • Assemble, plumb, operate, and maintain hydraulic power units, manifolds, accumulators, and servo or proportional valve systems.
  • Install, align, bleed, and maintain hydraulic cylinders and actuators.
  • Route and secure hydraulic hoses and assemble and torque fittings such as NPT, JIC, ORFS, and AN fittings.
  • Set up and operate structural test equipment including load frames, reaction structures, fixtures, and restraints.
  • Install instrumentation including strain gages, load cells, LVDTs, and pressure or flow transducers.
  • Perform basic wiring, shunt checks, and instrumentation troubleshooting.
  • Configure and operate closed-loop force and displacement control systems.
  • Set test setpoints, ramp rates, and safety limits in accordance with procedures.
  • Monitor and record loads, displacement, pressure, and hydraulic parameters.
  • Perform proof, hydrostatic, pressure, and decay-style testing.
  • Cut, bend, and flare tubing and perform general mechanical assembly.
  • Conduct leak checks and repair hydraulic or mechanical deficiencies.
  • Support contamination control, filtration, and fluid-cleanliness requirements.
  • Perform basic metal fabrication and mechanical repair.
  • Rig and move large test articles using cranes, forklifts, and other lift equipment.
  • Document test setup, operations, and results using Microsoft Office and applicable test software.
  • Follow PPE, lockout/tagout, barriers, and other safety controls for high-pressure test operations.

Work Schedule / Shift

  • 4/10 schedule, Monday–Thursday.
  • Full-time onsite in Redondo Beach, California.
  • Must be willing to support alternate shifts, off-hours, and weekends as required.

Pay

  • $81.47 per hour.
