Job Summary

The Mechanical Technician is responsible for maintaining and repairing heavy equipment, tractors, trailers, and specialized industrial assets to support operational demands and maximize equipment reliability. This role focuses on preventative maintenance, diagnostics, troubleshooting, repairs, and continuous improvement initiatives that enhance asset utilization, reduce downtime, and improve service delivery performance.

 

Job Description

  • Perform preventive maintenance and repairs on assigned equipment in accordance with maintenance programs and reliability-centered maintenance strategies.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and hydraulic system issues using diagnostic software and testing equipment.
  • Complete maintenance activities and accurately document work performed within computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Record labor, parts usage, equipment history, work orders, and maintenance activities in company systems.
  • Ensure equipment is maintained to operational and safety standards.
  • Conduct field service and road-call repairs using a company-provided service vehicle.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives focused on reducing downtime, improving equipment turnaround times, and increasing maintenance efficiency.
  • Support repair and reuse programs to reduce operational costs and improve asset utilization.
  • Assist with equipment failure investigations and root cause analysis efforts.
  • Maintain compliance with company policies, safety procedures, and maintenance standards.
  • Collaborate with operations, maintenance, and support teams to meet business objectives and operational requirements.

 

Skills Required

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in tractor and trailer maintenance.
  • Experience conducting preventive maintenance on heavy-duty equipment.
  • Experience diagnosing and repairing electrical, pneumatic, and mechanical systems.
  • Ability to perform field service repairs and road calls.
  • Familiarity with diagnostic and maintenance software including: CAT Electronic Technician (CAT ET), Cummins INSITE, DAVIE Diagnostic Software, ServiceRanger
  • HVAC experience is a plus.
  • Experience working with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).

Preferred Experience

  • 2+ years of experience in the oil and gas industry.
  • Experience maintaining and repairing:
  • Cement pumping equipment
  • Peterbilt tractors
  • Air Slide trailers
  • Bulk trailers

 

Education

  • Required: High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Technical training in Diesel Maintenance or a related field preferred.
  • Relevant diesel maintenance certifications are considered a plus.

 

Additional requirements

  • Strong troubleshooting and diagnostic abilities.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and maintenance procedures.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Ability to work rotating shifts and respond to field service needs as required.

 

Pay rate

  • $25 - $37 per hour (Compensation is offered based on experience, skills, and market factors)
