Mechanical Systems Design Engineer — Transportation Equipment
A day in the role
You start your morning translating product requirements into smart, manufacturable designs for innovative transportation equipment. By mid-day, you’re iterating 3D CAD models, running analyses, and pressure-testing concepts against performance, quality, cost, and regulatory targets. In the afternoon, you’re with Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, Supply Chain, Sales, and Project Management—reviewing DFMEA actions, closing out feasibility items, and aligning on control plans. You wrap by supporting a prototype build, validating test results, and documenting updates so production can launch smoothly.
What you’ll own
- Drive new product introductions and continuous improvement efforts from concept through production release.
- Design mechanical systems and components using 3D CAD and engineering analysis methods.
- Apply APQP rigor—DFMEA, feasibility studies, and control plans—to ensure robust, manufacturable designs.
- Develop and maintain drawings, Bills of Materials (BOMs), and clear, traceable technical documentation.
- Partner across Manufacturing, Quality, Purchasing, Supply Chain, Sales, and Project Management to deliver on time and on target.
- Support prototype builds, testing, validation, and seamless transition to production.
- Troubleshoot product and process issues; implement design updates and cost-down solutions.
- Provide hands-on technical support to production and after-sales service teams.
- Monitor emerging technologies and propose meaningful design enhancements.
What you’ll bring
- BS in Mechanical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering Technology, or a closely related field preferred.
- 5–10 years of mechanical design or product development experience in a manufacturing setting.
- Proficiency with CAD and PLM platforms.
- Strong command of core mechanical design principles and APQP methodologies.
- Fluency reading and interpreting engineering drawings and technical documentation.
- Excellent analytical thinking, organization, and communication skills.
Eligibility
Must be authorized to work in the United States. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
