Mechanical Systems Build Technician

Location: Big Lake, MN
Employment: Full-Time
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–3:30 PM
Compensation: $20.00–$22.00/hour

A Day in the Life

Your morning starts with reviewing work orders and studying blueprints and mechanical drawings. You pull parts from inventory, stage your build, and set up your workbench. From there, you’ll assemble machines—such as sealers, tunnels, and their sub-assemblies—using hand and power tools, verifying fit and function as you go. Throughout the day you’ll record progress on checklists, run basic tests, troubleshoot issues, and partner with engineering and supervision to resolve questions. You’ll help keep inventory accurate through cycle counts and by flagging missing, damaged, or incorrect components. You may lend a hand training teammates, and you’ll suggest improvements that make our assembly processes even better. You finish the shift by organizing your area so tomorrow’s builds start clean and safe.

What You’ll Build and How You’ll Do It

• Construct mechanical equipment and sub-assemblies to customer specifications.
• Interpret blueprints, diagrams, schematics, and written instructions to guide each build.
• Select and gather parts from stock; document usage on work orders and checklists.
• Use hand tools and power tools to assemble accurately and efficiently.
• Conduct basic inspection, functional checks, and in-process troubleshooting.
• Communicate assembly or equipment concerns to engineering and leadership.
• Support inventory accuracy, including assisting with scheduled cycle counts.
• Report any missing, damaged, or incorrect parts and resolve discrepancies.
• Share knowledge and help train other team members when needed.
• Recommend and support updates to assembly methods and documentation.
• Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe work environment; perform related duties as assigned.

What Helps You Succeed

• High school diploma or GED preferred.
• 0–5 years in mechanical assembly, manufacturing, or similar hands-on work.
• Ability to read and apply basic mechanical drawings/blueprints.
• Comfort with common hand and power tools.
• Strong hand–eye coordination, precision, and attention to detail.
• Mechanical aptitude with a willingness to learn and improve.
• Follows written and verbal instructions reliably.
• Clear communicator with a collaborative, team-first mindset.
• Works independently, prioritizes tasks, and meets deadlines.
• Basic computer proficiency for documentation and references.
• Dependable and committed to high-quality workmanship.

Physical & Workplace Realities

• Frequent fine motor work with small parts and assemblies.
• Regular standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching; occasional crawling.
• Lift up to 40 lbs. from waist level and carry it up to 30 feet.
• Ability to see small details and adjust focus for precision tasks.
• Industrial manufacturing setting with moderate noise, dust, and typical production conditions.
