Project Context
We are currently pursuing Extended Power Uprates (EPU) for PWR and BWR units. For these projects we are currently developing Design Input Requests (DIRs) to support analysis by external Architect-Engineer firms to assess the plant under EPU conditions to support the license amendment and potential plant modifications. We will be receiving Task Reports detailing the results of these analyses which will undergo validation through owner acceptance. We are seeking experienced nuclear professionals who can provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle.
Required Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or related technical discipline preferred.
- 5+ years of commercial nuclear power plant experience.
- Strong understanding of nuclear plant systems, operations, engineering, or licensing processes.
- Ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary environment supporting EPU-related activities.
- Familiarity with nuclear plant systems, design processes, operations, or licensing.
- Strong technical writing and communication skills
- Experience at another Boiling Water Reactor (BWR) or Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) facility.
- Direct involvement in a Power Uprate (EPU or other uprate project) at a commercial nuclear plant.
- Demonstrated understanding of engineering, operations, or licensing considerations associated with power uprate implementation.
Job responsibilities include:
- Develop design inputs
- Validate scoping documents for system evaluations
- Perform engineering review of work products demonstrating feasibility for power uprate on existing nuclear power plants.
- Equipment specifications
- Hydraulic calculations
- Developing datasheets for valves and other equipment
- Providing technical direction to designers
- Developing design input requirements
- Reviewing results from engineering reports assessing the feasibility of uprate activities and the modifications necessary for the plant
Skillsets and expertise:
- Significant experience with design of new construction and/or retrofit of power generation or heavy industrial facilities
- The ability to take the lead role for detailed design activities
- Significant knowledge of mechanical engineering design principles
- Proficiency with applicable codes standards and regulatory requirements
- Experience in development, preparation and checking of p&ids
- Experience with overall design and layout of piping systems
- Pipe sizing and routing
- Material selection
- Pipe support design
- Equipment selection
- Preparation of inquiry packages/data sheets
- Specification of tanks, pumps, and balance of plant equipment
- Experience with hydraulic calculations
- Fathom, Pepse (or similar software) experience is preferred
