The Mechanical Engineer SR 1 position requires 5+ years of related experience and an accredited bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering. A professional engineer license is desired. Job responsibilities include mechanical engineering support activities to develop design inputs, validate scoping documents for system evaluations and perform engineering review of work products demonstrating feasibility for power uprate on existing nuclear power plants. This role will lead in equipment specifications, and hydraulic calculations, developing datasheets for valves and other equipment, providing technical direction to designers, developing design input requirements and reviewing results from engineering reports assessing the feasibility of uprate activities and the modifications necessary for the plant. This role requires making sound decisions from judgement with minimal information. Skillsets and expertise required for this position include significant experience with design of new construction and/or retrofit of power generation or heavy industrial facilities and the ability to take the lead role for detailed design activities, significant knowledge of mechanical engineering design principles, proficiency with applicable codes, standards and regulatory requirements, experience in development, preparation and checking of P&IDs, experience with overall design and layout of piping systems, pipe sizing and routing, material selection, pipe support design, equipment selection, preparation of inquiry packages/data sheets, and specification of tanks, pumps, and balance of plant equipment, experience with hydraulic calculations. FATHOM, PEPSE (or similar software) experience is preferred. The ability to build effective relationships with plant staff, design engineering staff and/or vendors is essential.
