Mechanical Design Engineer


Position Overview

Alderson Engineering is seeking a Mechanical Design Engineer to support the design and delivery of HVAC and mechanical systems for commercial, institutional, and industrial building projects. This role will collaborate with internal teams and external partners to produce high-quality, code-compliant designs from concept through construction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design HVAC systems including load calculations, equipment sizing, ductwork, and piping layouts
  • Develop construction documents using Revit and AutoCAD
  • Perform energy calculations and ensure compliance with applicable codes (ASHRAE, IECC, local codes)
  • Coordinate with electrical, plumbing, and structural disciplines
  • Participate in project meetings with clients, architects, and contractors
  • Conduct site visits, field investigations, and construction administration support
  • Review submittals, RFIs, and shop drawings
  • Assist with project scheduling, budgeting, and deliverable deadlines

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field
  • 2–8+ years of experience in MEP / building systems design
  • Proficiency in Revit (required) and AutoCAD
  • Experience with HVAC load calculation software (e.g., Trace, HAP)
  • Knowledge of ASHRAE standards and mechanical codes
  • Strong communication and coordination skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • EIT or Professional Engineer (PE) license (or on track)
  • Experience with healthcare, commercial, or industrial projects
  • Familiarity with energy modeling or sustainable design (LEED)
