Mechanical Engineer

Location: Raleigh, NC

Onsite Flexibility: Hybrid On-site Tuesday Thursday; remote Monday & Friday

Contract Details

  • Position Type: Contract
  • Contract Duration: 18 months (with potential conversion to full-time for highly qualified candidates)

Job Summary

As a Mechanical Engineer, you will play a key role in the design, development, and implementation of mechanical systems and components. Leveraging your experience and expertise, you will contribute to the innovation, improvement, and optimization of products and processes. This role supports UPS and power supply projects, with two openings available.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop mechanical components, systems, and assemblies using CAD software and engineering principles.
  • Conduct engineering analyses, simulations, and tests to validate designs, ensure performance, and mitigate risks.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including product design, manufacturing, and quality assurance, to ensure designs meet requirements and specifications.
  • Evaluate and select materials, components, and suppliers based on performance, cost, and reliability considerations.
  • Participate in design reviews, brainstorming sessions, and problem-solving activities to identify and resolve design challenges and optimization opportunities.
  • Support prototyping, testing, and validation activities, including the design and fabrication of test fixtures and prototypes.
  • Document design specifications, engineering drawings, test plans, and reports in compliance with industry standards and regulations.

Required Skills

  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD) and engineering analysis tools (e.g., Finite Element Analysis).
  • Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, including statics, dynamics, thermodynamics, and materials science.
  • Experience with product development processes, including design, prototyping, testing, and validation.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills, with the ability to analyze complex technical problems and develop innovative solutions.
  • Effective communication skills, with the ability to present technical information clearly and concisely.
  • Strong 3D CAD, drawings, assemblies, and BOM experience.
  • Creo is required.
  • Experience with large sheet-metal assemblies, wiring harnesses, bus bars/interconnects, plastic parts, and PLM systems.

Preferred Skills

  • SolidWorks preferred.
  • Experience with product lifecycle management (PLM) software and tools.
  • Familiarity with design for manufacturability (DFM) and design for assembly (DFA) principles.
  • Knowledge of regulatory standards and requirements applicable to mechanical engineering (e.g., ASME, ISO).
  • Experience with mechatronics, robotics, or electromechanical systems.
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing or product development environment is a plus.
  • Background in UPS, power supplies, or related power electronics products is highly relevant.

Education Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field required.

Required Experience

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in mechanical engineering or product design, with a focus on mechanical systems and components.

Nice-to-Have Experience

  • 3 years of experience preferred; candidates with a Master's degree and 2 years may also be considered.
