Position Overview
We are seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to provide technical leadership on custom automation and engineered equipment projects. This role will be responsible for developing mechanical concepts, leading design efforts, supporting project execution, and providing technical guidance to engineering and project teams.
The ideal candidate is a hands-on mechanical engineer with strong machine design experience who can take ownership of complex projects from concept through completion.
Responsibilities
- Lead mechanical design and development of custom automation and engineered equipment.
- Develop project concepts, layouts, designs, and engineering solutions.
- Provide technical guidance to engineers and project teams.
- Support proposals, quotations, cost estimates, and project planning.
- Perform engineering calculations, design reviews, and risk assessments.
- Select and work with vendors, suppliers, and outside engineering resources.
- Review and approve mechanical designs, drawings, and documentation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
- 7+ years of mechanical engineering experience preferred.
- Strong experience with custom machinery, automation, machine design, or engineered equipment.
- Proficiency with 3D CAD software such as SolidWorks.
- Strong understanding of mechanical design principles, materials, tolerances, and manufacturing processes.
- Experience taking projects from concept through design, build, and implementation.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Strong problem-solving and analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to provide technical leadership and mentor other engineers.

- Design for manufacturing and assembly.
- Vendor selection and technical sourcing.
- Experience supporting customer-facing engineering or project activities.
