Description

Job Title: Mechanical EngineerJob Description

The Mechanical Engineer oversees the preparation, coordination, and management of all production engineering documentation required for the manufacturing of custom and standard air handling units. This role ensures that all documentation supporting fabrication, assembly, quality control, and project execution is accurate, timely, and compliant with internal and external standards. The Mechanical Engineer also leads a team of production engineers and technical staff, contributes to mechanical and HVAC system design, and supports new product development and continuous improvement initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the preparation, coordination, and management of production engineering documentation for custom and standard air handling units.
  • Ensure all engineering paperwork is accurate, complete, and delivered on time to support fabrication, assembly, quality control, and project execution.
  • Lead and mentor a team of production engineers and technical staff, providing technical guidance and support in mechanical and HVAC-related projects.
  • Contribute to the mechanical design of HVAC systems, including heat recovery units, chillers, modular chillers, compressors, and air handling units (AHUs).
  • Apply psychrometric principles and thermal system knowledge to the design, selection, and optimization of HVAC components and systems.
  • Evaluate and work with multiple suppliers, reviewing technical specifications to select appropriate components and ensure compatibility with design requirements.
  • Generate clear and detailed technical reports that document design decisions, performance calculations, and engineering analyses.
  • Use engineering principles related to heat transfer, fluid mechanics, and engineering systems to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues in HVAC and mechanical systems.
  • Utilize CAD and engineering software such as Inventor, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and ERP systems to create, manage, and update engineering drawings and documentation.
  • Perform data entry and analysis in Excel to support design calculations, documentation control, and reporting.
  • Collaborate with product engineering teams to support new product development and improvements to existing air handling and HVAC products.
  • Ensure that production engineering documentation meets applicable standards and can support professional stamping and signing of drawings where required.
  • Coordinate with cross-functional teams in manufacturing, quality, and supply chain to ensure seamless execution of projects and smooth production processes.
  • Participate in training and knowledge transfer activities, including travel-based training, to align with global standards and best practices.

Essential Skills

  • Degree in engineering, preferably in mechanical engineering.
  • Minimum of 4 years of HVAC experience, including hands-on work with heat recovery systems, chillers, modular chillers, compressors, and air handling units (AHUs).
  • Experience applying psychrometrics and thermal systems principles in the design and analysis of HVAC systems.
  • Strong understanding of heat transfer principles, fluid mechanics, and engineering systems relevant to mechanical and HVAC applications.
  • Demonstrated experience in mechanical design for HVAC equipment and air handling units.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and work with technical specifications and engineering documentation.
  • Experience generating technical reports that clearly communicate engineering analyses and decisions.
  • Industrial engineering or manufacturing environment experience, with exposure to production processes and documentation.
  • Proficiency with CAD and engineering tools such as Inventor, SolidWorks, and AutoCAD.
  • Experience using ERP systems to manage engineering and production data.
  • Ability to perform accurate data entry and basic analysis in Excel.
  • Background in product engineering and involvement in new product development initiatives.
  • HVAC experience of 10 years, including work with heat recovery/exchangers, chillers, modular chillers, compressors, AHUs, and troubleshooting of thermal systems.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Professional engineering certification with the ability to stamp and sign drawings is a strong plus.
  • Experience selecting components, implementing designs, and working directly with multiple suppliers.
  • Hands-on experience implementing designs physically in a manufacturing or industrial environment.
  • Exposure to electrical aspects related to mechanical and HVAC systems.
  • Experience in coordinating engineering documentation across multiple projects and teams.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail to ensure documentation accuracy and compliance.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a high-performing team environment and contribute to a growing operation.
  • Willingness to travel for training and professional development when required.

Work Environment

This is a full-time, permanent role based in Arizona, working 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday, typically from 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The position is located in a rapidly expanding facility focused on the manufacturing of custom and standard air handling units, where early team members play a key role in shaping the culture, standards, and future of the operation. The environment is industrial and engineering-focused, with regular use of technologies such as ERP systems, Inventor, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, and Excel to support design and production activities. Permanent team members may be required to travel for approximately four weeks to Montreal, Canada or China for training to align with global processes and best practices. Temporary roles do not require travel. The culture emphasizes high performance, collaboration, and the opportunity to help build and influence a growing operation.

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Phoenix, AZ.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $47.00 - $52.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
