Job Title: Mechanical Engineer
Location: Salt Lake City, UT (100% Onsite Position Monday-Friday)
Start date: ASAP
Duration: Contract, 6-12 Months+
Pay Rate: $50-60/hr DOE
Job Responsibilities
- Provide technical expertise in the design, development, specification, and implementation of mechanical systems and equipment to meet project and client requirements.
- Apply engineering judgment and analysis to support efficient and practical project execution.
- Identify and recommend improvements to designs, systems, and engineering processes.
- Support multiple projects simultaneously (typically 3–4), based on project phase and workload.
- Work independently with minimal supervision while coordinating with teams to meet schedule targets.
- Collaborate with project managers and multidisciplinary teams (mechanical, electrical, process, and controls) to ensure alignment, clear communication, and successful project execution across multiple time zones.
- Ensure mechanical scope is delivered through all project phases, from concept through detailed design.
- Develop practical, cost-effective designs that support efficient fabrication, installation, and regional compliance.
- Prepare technical specifications and obtain vendor quotations for third-party equipment.
- Support development of fabrication and assembly drawings for process and precious metals equipment.
- Execute assigned project scope, including direct coordination with clients, end users, and engineering firms.
- Review and approve mechanical drawings to ensure compliance with project requirements and standards.
- Coordinate with engineering disciplines to develop PFDs, P&IDs, plant layouts, material balances, piping, structural, and electrical layouts.
- Review client specifications and confirm final designs meet all technical and contractual requirements.
Job Requirements- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline, or equivalent relevant experience.
- 5–10 years of experience in mechanical engineering, preferably in project-based or industrial/process environments.
- Demonstrated experience with piping and pumping system analysis, equipment sizing, and specification development.
- Working knowledge of steel fabrication practices and mechanical equipment operation.
- Proficiency with engineering design tools such as SolidWorks and AutoCAD preferred.
- Solid understanding of engineering fundamentals and ability to apply them in a practical, project-driven environment.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Experience in reviewing PFDs, P&IDs, general arrangement drawings, and detailed fabrication/assembly drawings.
- Ability to work independently and manage workload across multiple projects.
- Strong communication skills and ability to coordinate effectively with cross-functional teams and clients.
- Experience with change management and resolving technical or project-related issues.
