Mechanical Engineer
Location: Madison, WI – Onsite
Contract Role: 6+ month duration with potential for extensions
Position Summary:
Automated Systems, Inc. (ASI) is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer that will support the Mechanical Engineering Team with the design, development, documentation, and delivery of hardware and instrumentation projects. In this role, you will help develop medical device automation from concept, through design and integration/verification. The role will work on mechanisms, actuators, guarding, structures, and support continuing engineering activities. This role will communicate with project managers and leaders at all levels of our business.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and analyze mechanical parts, lead mechanical engineering activities for development projects to ensure technical execution aligns with product, quality, and business objectives.
- Manage complex product assemblies in Solidworks, project plans, priorities, and resource coordination to support timely delivery of design, development, documentation, and implementation work.
- Provides technical oversight for mechanical engineering designs, design reviews, and resolution of complex hardware or instrumentation issues.
- Take products through engineering analysis and design validation testing phases using skills of both the internal team and outside resources.
- Work closely with electrical engineers to develop tightly-integrated, compact electro mechanical solutions.
- Ensures engineering work complies with applicable quality, regulatory, and documentation requirements within a regulated environment.
- Drives continuous improvement in engineering methods, design practices, and team effectiveness to support innovation, efficiency, and reliable execution.
- Source and collaborate with other engineering leads and parts vendors.
- Cooperate with the design transfer and manufacturing organization and outside vendors in creating fixtures for manufacturing and testing.
Requirements
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field as outlined in the essential duties.
- 5+ years of relevant engineering experience, including experience in Mechanical drawings and design controls and mechanical/hardware engineering within a biotech, pharmaceutical, medical device, or other regulated environment.
- Must have strong knowledge with complex Solidworks, and 3D CAD designs.
- Hands-on experience with CAE tools with regards to stress strain and impact.
- Proven knowledge of statistical tolerance analysis.
- Strong experience with design and requirements of medical devices.
- Demonstrated experience with design of machine automation.
- Experience leading engineering projects or teams, with working knowledge of mechanical design tools, product development processes, and cross-functional development in a regulated setting.
