Description:

CTG is seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer III to support the design, development, testing, and industrialization of advanced manufacturing equipment used in optical fiber production processes. This role will focus on prototype equipment design, machine systems integration, process improvement, and manufacturing optimization within a collaborative multi-disciplinary engineering environment.

Candidates must be able to commute and work onsite in Wilmington, NC

Pay Rate: Based on experience

Work Hours: M-F 8am-5pm

Education: Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical discipline required. Master’s degree strongly preferred.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and develop prototype and production manufacturing equipment
  • Lead equipment validation testing in lab and manufacturing environments
  • Analyze engineering and process data to support design improvements
  • Collaborate with Mechanical, Electrical/Controls, Chemical, and Materials Engineering teams
  • Support process optimization initiatives related to yield, quality, machine utilization, and manufacturing efficiency
  • Create and maintain engineering documentation, reports, and equipment specifications
  • Utilize CAD tools to develop machine and equipment designs
  • Manage multiple engineering projects and priorities simultaneously

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • 5–10 years of relevant engineering experience preferred
  • Strong background in machine design and systems integration
  • Knowledge of heat transfer, fluid mechanics, material properties, and manufacturing processes
  • Experience with materials processing equipment in manufacturing environments
  • Proficiency with 3-D CAD software, preferably AutoDesk Inventor
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills
  • Ability to design and execute engineering experiments and validation testing

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with machine controls, PLCs, motion control systems, and industrial safety systems
  • Familiarity with Python, Power BI, JMP, Matlab, Fluent, or Aspen
  • Knowledge of optical fiber manufacturing or process development
