Responsibilities

Essential Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Creates, interprets, and corrects SolidWorks 3D models and 2D drawings;
  • Creates or reviews and signs engineering document changes through Engineering Change Notice (ECN) procedure;
  • Analyzes material selection for a specific design, considering costs, competition, time limitations, company planning and other technical and economic factors;
  • Understands machine operations as suited to produce the most economical highest quality part;
  • Specifies, designs, develops and tests parts and assemblies for company products or in-house fixtures with attention to electrical interface parameters;
  • Communicates and interfaces with vendors, customers and staff members to define parameters, clarify issues and determine a best solution to meet design goals;
  • Completes quotes as assigned and requested;
  • Understands manufacturing needs (Design for Manufacturability, Design for FT, assembly prints, manufacturing instructions, documentation structure, etc.)
  • Compiles and assists in the analysis of operational, test and research data to establish or meet performance standards for newly designed or modified products;
  • Analyzes test data and reports to determine if design meets functional and performance specifications;
  • Prepares test, research and operational data in an SPC format and translates them into clear and concise procedures;
  • Evaluates engineering test results, competitors and industry for possible application to development of systems or other uses.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum BSME plus 3-5 plus years related experience or MS Mechanical Engineering or Mechatronics

  • Superior design expertise

  • Knowledge of GD&T (per ASME Y14.5-2009)

  • Proficiency with materials, heat treatment and fabrication techniques

  • Good knowledge of test process, data acquisition theory and techniques

  • Strong knowledge of machining operations, such as molding, forging, stamping, turning, milling, welding, etc.

  • Very strong in SolidWorks and PDM

  • Demonstrated ability to apply academic technical skills to real-world problems with independent development of design and analysis approaches for typical problems

  • Able to plan and execute development of evolutionary products

  • Plans and conducts cross-functional team meetings and coordinates transfer of products from engineering to operations and product teams
